@AngstigeHippie @BullBoss5 Many American homes aren't really meant to last. We remodel often, buy homes and level them to build new homes, and we have severe weather that can wreck them. You don't want bricks in an f5 tornado. Our homes aren't permanent. We don't want them to be.

I think Americans misunderstand why AC is less common in Europe.
For a lot of Europeans, comfort is not always about controlling everything artificially. It is also about opening the windows, letting air circulate, using shutters, living with the seasons, and keeping life simple.
It is not necessarily backward. It is just a different relationship with comfort, energy, and everyday life.

@BullBoss5 In the Netherlands it is "uncomfortably warm" for about 8-10 days a year, while our homes are strongly insulated, too. Unlike American homes, which often have walls made of cardboard. It's 23 degrees in my room at night, despite having had a full week of 27 degrees outside.

Women don't understand how long a man can go without anyone being kind to him for no reason. Men receive kindness in exchange for being useful. Women receive kindness freely from the moment they're born. A man can be surrounded by people who depend on him and still have nobody who would take care of him if he stopped being useful. We don't even think of that as being strange.
