At just 6, Isabelle was losing her sight to cataracts. She struggled to play, move, or learn. Through CBM, she received life-changing surgery. Today, she can see clearly again—playing, learning, and thriving. #CBMImpact #ChildHealth

Albinism Umbrella
Albinism Umbrella@albinismumbrell·
#MythOfTheWeek from Across Africa: “Having a child with albinism is a curse.” This dangerous myth is deeply rooted in fear, superstition, and a lack of understanding. Let’s break it down and clarify the truth. Understanding Albinism Albinism is a genetic condition caused by reduced melanin production. It is not spiritual, supernatural, or a punishment. It is simply inherited — like eye color or height. Why the Myth Is Wrong; Labeling a child as a curse creates lifelong stigma, fear, and even violence. The myth is false and harmful. It dehumanizes both the child and their family. Where It Comes From; Cultural beliefs associating albinism with misfortune. Limited access to accurate health information. Generational silence around disability and genetics. The Facts – Albinism is not contagious. – It is not a curse. – Children with albinism deserve love, protection, and equal opportunity. Let’s replace fear with truth. Now that you know, pass it on. #DemystifyingAlbinism #IAAD2025 #AlbinismIsNotACurse #StopTheStigma #DisabilityAwareness #InclusionMatters
