@teameffujoe I feel like what he’s missing is that it’s far more likely to reach zero casualties via the blue button than it is via the red button. Yes, with the red button you are in greater control of guaranteeing your own survival, but also, you almost certainly guarantee casualties.

lots of strange reactions to this game. let’s clear some things up: childless men do not have paternal instincts the way that childless women have maternal instincts (we observe this even in the way little girls play vs. little boys). men first experience paternal instincts once they have their own children - and typically, those paternal instincts are only ever felt for their own children, and no one else’s. men are not nurturers. men don’t gush over cute kids in public. men don’t have baby fever. if a man wants to possess a child for any reason other than it being a product of his own lineage, he is likely a predator. and you’d be taking the feminist/radical gender abolitionist position to protest any of the above points. this should explain why a “dad simulator” game marketed to mostly childless men gives people the creeps.

@disparutoo something I've noticed is all of the people that used to have similar tastes to me, but are more forgiving of modern content than I am (the people I though of as normies) are the ones with medical marijuana cards. I asked if they ever watch this stuff sober, all said no.

This is also my theory about Netflix and "second screen viewing" requiring you to repeatedly state the storyline over and over again. It's a top down decision not based off customer desire. It's someone in an office decided so, and everyone followed it like the voice of god.

@disparutoo @nerd_cookies I agree completely. The methods they used to ruin them work just as well in reverse. Start with firing people- no "parted ways" euphemisms, and be insulting about it. De-canonize all their work and rebrand it something lame. You could reclaim a fanbase in 1 press release.

@AstraulTTV @Grummz I have been into MMOs since 1997 ultima online, and the main lesson I learned? I don't want to talk to almost any of you, much less have my game time scheduled around your lives or get into group politics. Solo/casual friendly is absolutely the way to go. More SWG less EQ.

I've said it before but, I don't think the MMO genre will ever recover if they can't do away with antisocial game design. The game is literally Massively Multiplayer, if you play a Massively Multiplayer game just to be a rebel and go it solo, don't expect the same level of access that a group has, I'm not saying solo shouldn't be possible, but don't expect to do every piece of content in the whole damn fucking game without speaking a word to anybody. If you need to party up you should have to seek it out, ask about it, not just open a Ui, select a few options and then get paired with fucking 3-7 other retards that also don't ever talk. Meanwhile you have a global auction house mechanic making any form of actual trading economy or gameplay a moot point, so they have to fake it with "trade goods" that don't fucking do anything or serve any purpose other than you not being able to just fast travel with them like you can with every other item in the damn game. All to fake the idea that you can move goods from point A to B and potentially be attacked by other players and/or mobs. Players no longer even open their own shops in MMO’s because they can just pop open the UI, search up the fuckin "Godkiller Mega Sword", see that its fuckin 1 bazillion gold and put the one they just got up for 1 gold less than that, thinking they're the smartest person in the world, just for some other retard with more gold than the entire economy to decide they want the best gear in the game so they buy it from you with 2 clicks and zero interaction and... honestly, I could go on and on all day about this shit, but if you don't understand the magic of back before MMO’s played like this, then you really don't understand what made them special. The old concept of what an MMO should be is not what we have now, arguably what we have is a shell of what we were originally sold, and that's just sad, pathetic even. How developers don't realize this is absolutely decimating the genre is beyond me.

Are MMOs done? No bait, I'll weigh in as the team lead for OG WoW. LOTR cancelled, New Worlds sunset. I don't think they are. I warned devs at GDC to stop copying the WoW forumula after they invited me to talk about the making of WoW on a panel. I tried to tell them that before WoW, there were SO MANY different types of MMOs. It was the wild west and there are so many different games trying different things. We just picked the EQ model because we liked it the best, and then polished it and made it mass market. But we also were really interested in making a Battlefield MMO, or a Sim MMO, and others. It wasn't that WoW had the RIGHT formula to make MMOs work. It's that we invested the time and mental energy into taking the EverQuest formula and make it right, with tons of Blizzard polish, and eliminating the frustrating moments. That can still be done. Stop making MMOs about fantasy settings with leveling, zones and dungeon raids. I'm convinced there are still good ideas out there.

Odd to be making threats like this. They don't really have any leverage here. EA owns Bioware's major properties, and the bulk of the developers that were actually behind the studio's success, are gone. These are essentially a bunch of mostly random guys, using the name for a bit of stolen valor. They wouldn't be hard to replace, the industry's looking to cut the fat anyway, and trying to be combative does nothing but put a target on your head. If these guys were actually smart, they'd be laying low and pouring to pour 110% of their effort into whatever project they were currently working on. If they did, there's a chance EA's new owners might consider keeping them. But making demands and acting like they're the big man on campus? If the owners are actually paying attention, they are probably not going to like that.

I told you that Japan was going this way and about a year behind Western studios from waking up to what a PR disaster this is. Digimon Story doing body types. Body types for me are not an immediate boycott, but it is all so disappointing. It’s a way of erasing normative male female in order to further a normalize a minority and gaslight you into thinking it’s mainstream. It’s actually an attack vector on civilization along with many other “inclusive” changes that seem small but collectively destroy things.
