@SpApuestas @Apocaloptimist5 @Wheresthebeef95 @_6signxxx One tiny but big detail I forgot, they do not maintain the DNA as they should. Cells copy their DNA before dividing but it’s a complicated process. They can mess up. Cancer is what happens when the cell doesn’t “proofread” and divides anyway, and then the mistakes compound

@SpApuestas @Apocaloptimist5 @Wheresthebeef95 @_6signxxx If they fail to kill themselves and the immune system doesn’t, they keep growing and dividing, forcing the body to give them blood and food, stealing it from healthy cells and replacing them while getting more mutated as they fail to correct themselves before dividing. @SpApuestas @Apocaloptimist5 @Wheresthebeef95 @_6signxxx So cells make mistakes when they divide and can become cancerous. They kill themselves or are killed by the immune system when this happens because if they don’t, they will keep dividing, mutate more, stop working and then replace cells that are healthy and working (1/2)

@Apocaloptimist5 @Wheresthebeef95 @_6signxxx Telomeres. They cap DNA but shrink upon division to where your DNA isn’t protected eventually. We create telomeres in development but stop but immortal animals repair theirs. Actually we repair ours too…via cancer. Cancer cells are immortal because they reactivate telomerase

@Wheresthebeef95 @_6signxxx I'm curious how this applies to those organisms that are effectively immortal. Hydras, planarian flatworms, certain jellyfish. Lobsters only die when they're too exhausted to moult anymore, and could theoretically live indefinitely if they had some assistance with moulting.

The Host (2006) reveals its monster in broad daylight within minutes instead of hiding it like most creature features. Bong Joon-ho shifts the tension away from mystery and turns the entire movie into panic, incompetence, and human reaction.

@Enezator Before anyone says “Messing with nature” humans have caused sea turtle decline. We can’t reduce their numbers and then refuse to help their numbers when we’ve already interfered. Major organizations to help them would even tell you that it’s okay to watch over them as they travel

@Based_SpaceGoji I’m not versed in Star Wars very well, wouldn’t the saber just slide down and cut/burn once let go of? Isn’t the blade just a laser?

@rokomelos @SirSnipeyy With things like this though it’s a probability vs. possibility. It’s definitely possible to survive that fall. However how probable is it? That’s where I’d get skeptical. But people have survived plane crashes 🤷🏾‍♂️

@breckvn @luvblessingz I used to use an alarm clock until the power cut out while I was asleep, resetting the alarm, too many times over the years. That’s why I personally use my phone now.

@iamsheepless @interesting_aIl With how these things go, if they tell you the full government information on a person with these types of things, it’s because the illness already turned them into past tense. The article confirms as much.

@jackalshrew4 @sonarevent_ I can say cordyceps in insects actually does this. It makes them go somewhere high up so when they die the spores float downward to infect more hosts. I heard rhinovirus actually makes you sneeze as well to help spread it but I haven’t vetted that.

@sonarevent_ i wonder if some infectious diseases might actually influence their hosts into spreading it by some means. like that one that makes mice stop being scared of cats. maybe there are certain diseases which subtly influence the way a person acts and thinks in order to make it spread

@MadParticipant @freshnessofuk @kirawontmiss And even if it is then the next question is why? Having your brain “soften” your death does nothing to one’s fitness, ideally you’ve already reproduced, evolution wouldn’t care about how you die. So why does the brain do this?
