Canberra’s pokie “charity” system is an absolute joke. ACT Labor owns 4 venues (Canberra Labor Club Group). The CFMEU owns The Tradies (huge pokies venue). Every other big club (Hellenic, Irish, Raiders, Southern Cross, etc.) does the exact same thing. All under the same 8% rule Labor governments have kept in place for decades.

An Easter Sunday reminder. Pauline Hanson still employs a convicted rapist. If ever there is a way for a politician to say “fuck you Australian women”, that says it all.

The Canberra Labor Club Group is 100% owned by (or an associated entity of) the ACT Labor Party. It operates four venues in Canberra: • Canberra Labor Club • Belconnen Labor Club • Gungahlin Labor Club • Weston Creek Labor Club (or similar subsidiaries — one membership covers all four). These are major pokie operations (hundreds of machines across the venues) that generate tens of millions in annual gambling revenue, much of which historically supports Labor Party activities.

Your favourite live sports are about to look a lot different with major restrictions on betting ads unveiled today by the Prime Minister. There are no hits to pokies or casinos, just to ads on TV and radio and footy jerseys in what's being described as the most significant gambling reforms ever. @telester

Anthony Albanese personally opened the Mercure Belconnen hotel in Canberra in February 2020. This was a roughly $40–50 million project built by the Canberra Labor Club (which operates multiple pokie venues in the ACT). The club used profits from its gaming machines (hundreds of pokies across its venues) to fund the development. michaelwest.com.au/action-from-la…

We all know someone who has been hurt by gambling. We’re determined to make sure a new generation doesn’t grow up thinking it’s synonymous with sport. That’s why we’re cracking down on ads, banning players from taking part in campaigns, and targeting harmful online betting.

@10NewsAU The ALP owns pokie machine venues. Not affiliated. OWNS them. Australia has the highest gambling losses per person on earth $1,635 per adult. More than double the US. The party meant to fix that is taking $78,500 a day from the same machines. Every day. $28 million a year.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced a long-delayed crackdown on gambling advertising at the National Press Club. The reforms are aimed at reducing children’s exposure and breaking the link between sport and betting. Measures include caps on TV ads, longer blackout periods during matches, a ban on advertising at stadiums and on jerseys, as well as broadcast restrictions around school pick-up times. A full ban on ads has been ruled out, despite ongoing pressure following a major review into gambling harm. For more from 10 News: 10.com.au/news/national

@TMFScottP Classic isn’t it. Labor actually own four clubs with 100s of Pokie Machines. Profiting off gambling whilst ruining some Australian lives.

A huge improvement, but a missed opportunity to do it properly. Every restriction is a positive change, but nowhere near far enough: - 3 ads an hour between 6am and 8.30pm is still 42 ads a day. - Kids don't just listen to radio in the car. - And age-based bans will be gamed.

Three hours in the car every day. The cost of petrol hurting the weekly budget. Less time with family. This is a story a Victorian parent told us through our work from home survey. And it's why we're protecting your right to work from home two days a week in law from September 1.

BREAKING: Labor is backing another pay rise for 2.7M minimum wage and award workers. Today we've made a submission to the Annual Wage Review recommending the Fair Work Commission award an economically sustainable real wage increase to Australia’s award workers. The minimum wage is now $175 a week higher than when we came to office. This is just another way we're helping with the cost of living, alongside all the support we’re rolling out like tax cuts and cheaper medicines.
