More taxation WILL NOT FIX HEALTHCARE as you can see below. We need to address the incentives written into Obamacare - specifically that the margins of healthcare companies are capped at 15% and the unwinding of the M&A bonanza that created mega corps in healthcare. While it may have been well intentioned, and people then thought that forcing these companies to make a fixed amount would lower costs, it didn’t. Instead, these companies raised prices so they could make ther fixed margin on a larger number! We now have a decade of data to know this is true and it doesn’t work as intended. Separately, allowing insures and PBMs and providers to be conjoined has not achieved anything productive for life expectancy, costs and consumer trust. We need the healthcare industry to compete more vigorously against each other so consumers can have access to cheaper and more effective healthcare. Add in CMS to negotiate some big deals and they will crush some costs. This is the way to get quality back up and bring down prices. It is possible but it needs political will to push back against the healthcare lobby who won’t want this and will argue to “let things be”.
