you quite literally almost always lose performance power when improving fidelity. if you add more depth to textures, stronger anti-aliasing tools, improved shadows/ lightning etc - that ALL adds input delay or at least some sort of hit to performance. i'm cool with improving visual fidelity if they add a performance mode. if not, why would we want this? look what happened when they tried to add dreads/hair physics. shattered the game
