After @PatCummingsNTA and I watched Everett Dobson talk about “unity” and “collaboration” at the HBPA Conference, I said to Pat… you know what, let’s give this one last real shot. So we did. I had my attorneys send a letter to the @jockeyclub attorneys. Not complicated. Sit down. One room. One full day. Let’s put everything on the table and actually fix this sport. We gave them 48 hours to respond. It’s now been over a week. Crickets. 🦗 No response. No respect. No interest. Sadly, it’s exactly what I expected. Here’s what we offered… All the Stewards. Jim Gagliano. Me. Pat Cummings. Aron Wellman. And a real group of industry leaders across every part of the sport… track operators, trainers, aftercare, breeders, etc. One full day. No hiding. No excuses. No bullshit. If all that talk about “unity” meant anything…this is an automatic yes. But it’s not. Because they don’t want unity. They don’t want collaboration. They don’t want transparency. They want control. They want silence. They want the same broken system that’s been dragging this sport down for decades. So let me be crystal clear… This was it. The last good faith effort. They ignored it. Now we move forward…and we’re going on offense at a whole different level. If there’s any real media left in this sport that actually gives a damn, ask the @jockeyclub why they’re afraid to sit in a room and answer real questions from real people??? This has been going on for 3+ years. I’m not going anywhere. This fight is for all of us. What do you think???

The reign of the old guard blue bloods is coming to an end. The @jockeyclub knows it. The @jockeyclub feels it. The @jockeyclub can’t stop it. I’m sorry but shit like this is what drives me away from this sport. Absolutely preferential treatment to the “elite”. I requested the name Marcus Aurelius, I wear a coin of him around my neck… I was told by jockey club I couldn’t name it even though it was available because it sounded too similar to another name … but guess who was allowed to Fuckin use it? The @JockeyClub just keeps showing everyone exactly how this game is really being run. Jockey Club owned BloodHorse is reporting that HISA, an organization created through the draftsmanship of Jockey Club Steward Bill Lear and funded by Jockey Club forgiven loans, is now threatening to shut off Churchill Downs’ signal if they don’t pay. The Jockey Club creates it. The Jockey Club funds it. The Jockey Club controls it. And now the Jockey Club is using it. The hearing tied to this situation was led by a panel that included the brother in law of Jockey Club Steward Bill Lear, who sits on the Jockey Club funded HISA Board of Directors. The Jockey Club funded HISA general counsel is a former partner at Jockey Club Steward Bill Lear’s law firm and also the son-in-law of the former interim executive director of HISA, who ran Jockey Club owned Equibase for 20 years. Jockey Club. Jockey Club. Jockey Club. Same people. Same circle. Same influence. Enough is F$&kin Enough!!!!! We are all Team Churchill here!!!!! HISA attacking Churchill is as stupid as the Jockey Club attacking me. What do you think???

🚨MUST READ: Attached is a letter from @aronwellman7 detailing his firsthand experience in a meeting with the @JockeyClub last week at OBS. On the surface, it’s a strong letter. It captures Aron’s real frustration trying to work directly with the Evil Empire, The Jockey Club. But after sitting with it, it’s not encouraging. It’s sad. It’s upsetting. It’s devastating for an industry and a sport that so many people love. Aron chose not to name the stewards in the room, but I will. He met with Terry Finley, Bill Farish, and Jim Gagliano. For over three years, I’ve felt the same anger and frustration Aron lays out. The brutally honest truth is this: it’s not that the Jockey Club doesn’t understand the problems, and it’s not that they can’t fix them. They know exactly what they’re doing. They just don’t care about you, the industry, or most importantly, the horse. Jim Gagliano might be a nice guy personally. But professionally, he has been ineffective, incompetent, and damaging to this industry. The Jockey Club stewards are largely made up of blue bloods and pheasant hunters. They are mostly made up of frauds, and 90% of us in the industry see it now. Stuart Janney, the previous chairman, had a dispersal sale two years ago and still sits on the Board of Stewards while also serving on the NYRA board. Nothing changes. Our new chairman, Everett Dobson, seems like another nice guy who talks a good game but refuses to take real action. Just weeks ago, he stood at the National HBPA Conference calling for unity and collaboration. That would mean a lot more if it wasn’t coming from someone who helps control every major lever of power in the sport. Last week, I exposed the real Puppetmaster behind much of this, Bill Lear, a man whose influence stretches across the Jockey Club, Keeneland, HISA, Breeders’ Cup, TOBA, NTRA, and beyond. And now, from multiple sources, the panic is setting in. Kentucky legislators are paying attention. They’re tired of the control, the conflicts, and the lack of accountability. House Bill 904, and its proposed amendment, could change everything. It would limit the Jockey Club’s ability to impose a mare cap and, more importantly, open the door for an alternate breed registry in Kentucky. If that happens, their monopoly is in jeopardy. For decades, owners and breeders have been forced to hand over their data and operate under a system with no real choice and no real recourse. That may finally change. It’s taken a long time to get here, but the momentum is real. And make no mistake, the Jockey Club and its stewards are feeling it. This sport has no future if a small, closed circle continues to control the Jockey Club, HISA, Breeders’ Cup, TOBA, NTRA, and even Keeneland. For the sake of the participants, the fans, and most importantly the American Thoroughbred, let’s hope this is the beginning of the end of the greed, the self-interest, and the incompetence. Winning a Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks, helping @StJohnsBBall chase a Final Four, building the @TheUFL into a sustainable and exciting league, and pushing to transform horse racing for the better… that’s what drives me every day!!!!! Great article below by @SBJ on me disrupting horse racing for the betterment of the sport. As we get closer to the Kentucky Derby, when all eyes are on the biggest stage in racing, the spotlight is coming. National and global media will be asking the hard questions about the future of this sport and the need for real transformational change, especially in thoroughbred aftercare.
