@SeemaMalhotra1 You’ve not saved anyone a bloody penny! Even if you pass the new law before next election, most of us will have gone bankrupt from service charge extortion before the 40 year sunset on £250 ground rent takes effect. As a first time @UKLabour voter, never again! @AngelaRayner

@EmmaLewell 40 years is no help to anyone living, - ground rent should be abolished given the additional charges everyone faces since the building safety scandal. Not a scrap of work has been done to remediate my building yet so this sort of self-congratulation is tone deaf!!

I remember when people praised elected mayors for standing up to central government in the pandemic. So why is the @MayorofLondon refusing to challenge government over a law that breaks a @UKLabour manifesto pledge to end leasehold for good? Leasehold is destroying Londoners.

It is worth noting, that one of the main beneficiaries of @MayorofLondon’s GLA housing grants are @lbbdcouncil The funding is contingent on the adherence to the service charges charter mentioned by the mayor here. @lbbdcouncil have been found at first tier tribunal to be overcharging shared owners in “affordable housing” funded by the GLA, by 20% on their service charges, in a clear violation of their service charge charter. There has been absolutely no consequence for @lbbdcouncil - The GLA are aware of this, but have done nothing to hold the council to account. @tomcopley - you and I have spoken about this on numerous occasions extensively at city hall, is there anything you can do about this?

Your fear is not losing cheap votes but losing the big donors who give Nigel Farage 5m to fund his party. Money talks & votes are cheap. But we are not going anywhere block us all, it won't change a thing.

Well done @AndrewBoff 👏 "The Government have given 40 yrs to do so" NO @MayorofLondon the Government has given 40 yrs to phase out EXISTING ground rents. These are two different things. I'm not convinced this is going to get better for Labour by then drawing attention tothe Mayor saying leasehold is a feudal system but then still building more leasehold properties. It's the perfect demonstration of how Labour says one thing and does the opposite!

YES! This version of @UKLabour cares more about the interests of developers and ground rent grazers than ordinary people. They are keeping leasehold on life support by protecting money-for-nothing ground rents until 2068. But their manifesto promised to END leasehold.
