@PauloEastvan @BlackBeltTweets @DschlopesIsBack You need to chill. Trump trolled Canadians & Trudeau with 51st state. No Americans want it. US does need access to Greenland for defense. Study some economics, and learn who paid for development if the world over last 50 years. American middle class. Your world view is broken

@PauloEastvan @BlackBeltTweets @DschlopesIsBack Your base assumption that the US betrayed its allies if fundamentally wrong. If you really look at the facts, the US has been paying for the world since the UN and WTO were formed

@PauloEastvan @NimbusD82 @DschlopesIsBack Be honest with yourself. I’ve sat on both sides of the border. It was mutually beneficial, but asymmetric trade. Not free trade. Voters wanted this. The US electorate was tired of being bled by every other country in the world, with the help of DC elites

@NimbusD82 @DschlopesIsBack Nonsense. It was mutually beneficial trade. This stupid trade war is making your life more expensive, all for what, because your President wants to become an emperor and take over other countries? He doesn’t care about you at all. We’re all getting screwed over by this crap.

@RavynSkye1 @PascalLatreill2 @0ivankaTrump1 Rust belt. That was horrible, & Michigan suffered. But entire county did in 2008. Much of manufacturing fall in Michigan was caused by moving it to CDN. Plenty of addiction in Cambridge and Kitchener too. much of southern Ontario is a fallen industrial zone now

Grew up in a nice beautiful suburb in Michigan. Detroit was the nearest shit hole. That said, when I was a young adult, all my friends went broke, lost their houses (2008), I lost a ton of people to heroin and crack addiction. Formerly upper middle class people, girls who were on my cheerleading squad, turning into junkies. I was a nurse in the same ER they were being sent to, when they ODed. It was genuinely awful to watch. Shortly after that I went to live in Japan, came back to the States, and then only a couple years later, moved to Canada. I've been all over and Canada is truly the country I enjoy the most. I love my house, my job, my Canadian husband, and my neighborhood.

@pitdesi This is a zero sum game philosophy. But successful people grow the economy. There is a reason why capital is fleeing Canada, why GDP is declining. Because it’s not friendly to growth.

Exit taxes are great, actually… and the alternative is insane. No exit tax means anyone with huge paper gains get an obvious playbook: Build wealth in a country. Use its talent, capital, courts, customers, universities, and infrastructure. Let the gains compound untaxed. Then leave right before liquidity and sell in Dubai, Monaco or Singapore. Would be a terrible loophole that would drive away talented people. Canada is just saying: you built unrealized gains while a Canadian tax resident, you cannot erase that tax claim by changing your address before selling. That is good policy! If the US taxed purely by residence and had no exit tax, the optimal strategy for the Cursor founders right now would be obvious: move to Singapore. They could save billions by doing so and it would be bad for America. The tax code would be begging them to do it. They would almost be idiots not to. That is exactly the kind of dumb incentive exit taxes are meant to prevent. Canada’s version is not perfect, but it has a good feature- you don’t owe the tax until you actually sell the asset. You can defer payment with no penalty when you leave. You just cannot take all the unrealized gains with you and pretend the old tax base never existed. IMO Gad should quit whining.
Gad Saad@GadSaad

Following a very difficult meeting with my accountant, I just found out how much it is going to cost me in terms of an "exit tax" to leave Quebec and Canada. No human being in a free society should have their hard-earned money stolen in this manner. I'm genuinely numb. I'm speechless.

@RavynSkye1 @PascalLatreill2 @0ivankaTrump1 That’s the worst case scenario. I’ve lived in California, Florida, Arizona and Colorado. You’re not describing any of those. Most likely LA, Chicago, NYC, east coast corridor.

BTW, when I go home and see the absolute mess it's become, it's shocking. Walmart is ghetto, bulletproof glass in the gas stations, the highways have potholes the size of swimming pools, and it's genuinely 3rd world. Then I'll go to like... a new build suburb and it's dystopian. No trees, cookie cutter houses. It looks like a soulless movie set. Can't stand the states. It's soulless and corporate veneer plastered over a society that feels low trust and on the brink of collapse at any moment.

@RavynSkye1 @PascalLatreill2 @0ivankaTrump1 Funny. My experience is exactly opposite. Canada feels like Eastern Europe to me now. Was nice, isn’t now. I feel badly for my relatives, and they often come to visit, just to hang. Don’t know where you grew up, but it must be one of the hell hole cities.

@RavynSkye1 @0ivankaTrump1 I’m also dual. But traveling to China was far riskier on my Canadian passport. It’s not the golden ticket it used to be. Opportunities for me have been so immense in the US it was a no brainer. And my boys have all gotten past draft age.

@0ivankaTrump1 I have US citizenship already. If you want the IRS up your ass for the rest of your life, then sure. If you want to register your sons for the draft, go for it. If you want a passport that makes you a potential political hostage when you travel, have at it.

@CassandraEnHalo @FreddyLA7 I like your vibe. But honestly as a dual citizen with dozens of relatives in Canada: a LOT of people in Ontario hate Americans, and have a very bad view of America. It’s pretty sad. Mostly from Canadian media and politicians.

I think many of the negative comments Americans are making re: Canada have to do with their government. I have found Canadians to be kind and welcoming of Americans and Texans (been in Canada at least 3x), and it could be some of the Americans in the US are brainwashed to dislike Canada the way Europeans are brainwashed to dislike the US. The people are different than the governments. The people in the US and Canada are generally not a reflection of their own corrupt governments (both/all parties are corrupt) - some people are, but most are not. 🇺🇸

🚨 WOW! JD Vance just said LOUD AND CLEAR that we are NO LONGER pretending that "America First" includes ANY other country "[A Ukrainian-American] was sticking his finger in my face saying 'you need to support my country!'" "I said, 'sir, with all due respect, if you're an American, your country is the United States of America—NOT a place that you immigrated from.'" "Whether your family's been here for 300 years or one second, to be an American means to look out for Americans FIRST — and that's the perspective we have to take to our immigration policy."

@BradC_84 @financedystop I’m Californian. I love California. But even I know that’s not true by a huge margin. Add in that we don’t have much hiring, and net exodus of people, and it’s obvious where the action is at the moment.

The “Boom Belt” is basically America’s new economic engine. 11 states: Alabama Arkansas Florida Georgia Louisiana Mississippi North Carolina Oklahoma South Carolina Tennessee Texas Together, these states would have the 3rd largest GDP in the world. They’re responsible for around 70% of U.S. population growth and 57% of all new jobs.

I’m a CPA and tax expert. Canada has a lot of silly taxes and dumb tax rules. But exit taxes actually make sense. And it’s not some sort of ‘theft’. In fact, many countries (including the US) have them. 🧵

The Great Scam After what @GadSaad posted yesterday, something I had no idea existed... an "Exit Tax" I did some digging. This is what I found. Canada's departure tax is one of the biggest scam taxes on the books. Apparently when you leave the country, the government treats you as if you sold every investment you own, even if you sold nothing. You get hit with a tax bill on money you never touched, never withdrew, never spent. They literally invented a fake sale to justify taking your money. Here's what makes it even worse. The stocks they're taxing? Those are foreign companies. Apple, Samsung, whatever you hold, those grew because of what those businesses did in their own countries, their own markets, with their own workers. Canada had absolutely nothing to do with it. Zero. But they still want a cut just because you happened to live here while you owned them. They did nothing and still want to be paid like they did. And before 1996 this didn't even exist the way it does now. Chrétien's government expanded it that year and buried it in section 128.1(4)(b) of the Income Tax Act like they hoped nobody would notice. Italy doesn't do this. Portugal doesn't. Belgium, Switzerland, the UK, none of them pull this shit. You paid income tax every year. You paid sales tax. Property tax. You held up your end of the deal the whole damn time. And when you decide to go live somewhere else, they hit you with a bill for money that was never real to begin with. Canada under any Liberal is a Scam!
