@DecentInd The main reason I think is the roads and footpath comes under municipal corporation. All these corporators will dig some good road/footpath. The contractor will use substandard materials and actual money is sent to corporators.

All these GDP numbers are meaningless if common people’s living standards do not improve.
Mumbai’s streets still look like when Maharashtra was $200B GDP and will look the same even if Maharashtra reaches $1T economy.
The problem is not lack of finances but centralization of authority.
A BA pass babu sitting in an AC room in Mumbai is controlling whether potholes in Nagpur or Nashik will be fixed or not.
This is an absolute dictatorship of a magnificent order.
The state politicians and babus are so hungry for power that they let people die from potholes, open electric wires, air pollution but won’t decentralize to fix this mess.
Absolute sad state of affairs.
And, this is not just about Maharashtra but every single state in India.
This is high time. The union government should step in and force these crooks to devolve power and resources.

Everything in Pune is a little expensive, even if it's a basic thing.
In Indore we used to get poha for 10, 12, or 15 rupees maximum, but here in Pune even at the very normal basic thela the poha costs 30 rs.
And the most important thing they dont even put "sev" in it.

Whenever I travel by flight, I usually order coffee to avoid feeling sleepy. But yesterday, something strange happened.
I ordered a coffee, and the air hostess asked, “Which munchies would you like with it?”
I said, “Just coffee is fine.”
But she replied, “You can’t order only coffee, you have to take some munchies with it.”
I was surprised. Since when did ordering a simple coffee require a compulsory side snack too? Is this something new I am not aware of?

Nothing wrong with this, but those poor ppl should have been rehabilitated. You just can't destroy livelihood to hide poverty. No one wants to stand in 45 degrees Kolkata weather and sell egg roll outside sealdah station, they do it because they have no other choice.

I am a product of an inter-caste love marriage. I was unaware of this fact all my life and learned it very recently. I was surprised because it's not like both my families are super-progressive.
I asked my parents if the caste question ever arose. Not even once, they said. Then it struck me why that was the case.
Both my parents were Maharashtrians living in Indore (a minority). Their parents were just happy that both families were Marathi-speaking and that was enough to establish a common ground. Caste identity didn't matter.
I see inter-caste marriages happening all around me these days. Almost of all them are migrants from other states to Mumbai, Bangalore or Delhi. Urbanization, and migration delineates caste identities, and we need more and more of that.
The solution to our social problems in economic. Create more cities, create more jobs, and see caste evaporate slowly.
The solution to all our problems is 8%+ GDP growth for the next 20 years. Everything else is a distraction.

Caste is slowly losing its grip. I’m receiving invitations to inter-caste marriage receptions often. Here’s one: a KVG girl from Erode marrying an Iyer boy from Chennai. I genuinely thought it would take another century for this to become normal. Surprisingly fast. 🤷
