Los Angeles county reports COVID positivity increased by 230% to 0.69%, up from 0.3% last week. 47 new COVID+ patients were admitted to hospitals, down from 79 last week.

BREAKING: Los Angeles county reports a new ALL TIME LOW for COVID positivity of 0.3%. 79 new COVID positive patients were reported as new admissions, down from 97 reported last week (!) Only 5 positive tests were included for the positivity rate (same as last week's initial report, now up to 11. This tells us there's much more COVID out there than reported. Lagged 1 extra week, SARS-2 levels almost doubled from very low levels across 3 sites. RSV is at a year over year high (1/2)

@HarrySpoelstra Another paper demonstrating upregulated oxidative stress lasting for at least 3 months. Data regarding 8-OHdG, marker of oxidative DNA damage generated hydroxyl radicals, does suggest a plausible connection to not only epigenetic aging, but also cancer.

@ZdenekVrozina @DiscMedNews Oxidative DNA damage generated when hydroxyl radicals oxidize guanine. This appears to be higher in males. Hydroxyl free radicals may very well be causing not only epigenetic aging, but also the proliferation of cancers

@ZdenekVrozina @DiscMedNews This is the fourth clinical paper that I have read demonstrating upregulated, systemic oxidative stress lasting for at least 3 months. Secondly, the 8-OHdG levels also appeared to be significant in the Conv gp.

So it's clear that BA.3.2 preferentially infects children, something we have never seen before in a SARS-CoV-2 variant. Why? The question's baffled me, but after a suggestion from Darren Martin, I think I have an explanation that makes sense. 1/16

There's not much BA.3.2 in the US yet, but the numbers are still pretty striking. Ages 0-18 are more than 5 times as common in BA.3.2 sequences as in non-BA.3.2 sequences. USA, 2026, Feb 1 to present (Mar 23), non-travel non-BA.3.2, 139/1172 (11.9%) BA.3.2 26/41 (63.4%)

My mom made a surprise trip to visit me at the end of basic training at the Air Force Academy. We only had a few minutes. She gave me a hug and snuck some candy bars in my pockets and said she was proud. 26 years ago. But I remember it every day.
