Given it has been nearly two weeks and I have not been able to regain access to my account, I think it is probably time to call it quits. RIP.

Really says something about how shallow the Democrat’s bench of foreign policy and national security expertise is. It’s nearly all former Obama or Clinton staffers who have hung around far beyond their expiration date.

Scoop: Nat Sec Action—the foreign policy hub for the left co-founded by Jake Sullivan and Ben Rhodes—is rebooting ahead of the 2028 Dem primary with a new director, and more. Nat Sec Action became a key source for staffing the Biden admin. axios.com/2026/05/03/dem…

President Trump did not announce an escort mission just now, US officials say. Project Freedom, earlier called the Maritime Freedom Construct, is a coordination cell. It’ll tell US-flagged ships and others the safe lanes to navigate the Strait of Hormuz (aka no mines, etc.)

Absolutely fascinating translation of a senior Chinese diplomat in Kyiv's account of days leading up to & day of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The most jarring thing: even the Chinese on the ground were trying to convince Kyiv that war was imminent but were brushed off

The level of troops withdrawing certainly could be worse, but this is yet another self-inflicted wound by Washington to U.S. national security interests. Washington is essentially saying to Germany I am not happy with what you didn't do in the Middle East, so I am going to hurt myself in Europe and help Putin. Washington note to self: As they say, if you want someone with you at landing, try having them with you at takeoff. For those not fans of metaphors, here's something more clear for Washington: If you rudely and unnecessarily insult Europe in your National Security Strategy, try to steal Greenland from an ally whose solders fought and died with Americans in Afghanistan, appease the invader and insult the invaded in Ukraine, and fail to consult with European allies before a major war with Iran with massive economic consequences... then don't be surprised if they are little annoyed. This is a moment for statesmanship, not foreign policy governed by over-personalized mercurial emotion rather than a calm and objective assessment of American national security interests. America is safer and stronger because of our military posture in Germany. Putin is happy today. Americans should be concerned. x.com/Brad_L_Bowman/…

The Pentagon is planning to withdraw about 5,000 American forces from Germany, senior defense officials said Friday. The officials characterized the move as a signal of President Trump's discontent with the level of assistance that European allies have offered in the U.S.-Iran war. cbsn.ws/4n5Fm0G

So the US adds to its negotiating team a member of @FDD who is the bought and paid for lobbying and influence shop of the current Israeli Government. The same people who brought us bangers such as “in 13 days the Iranian oil infrastructure collapses”…. That was 19 days ago. This is basically Albanian State Media circa 1983 has joined the negotiations

NEW: Amid deadlocked Iran talks, Trump admin adds to negotiating team. Nick Stewart @nick_jstewart from @FDDAction has joined Witkoff's @SEPeaceMissions office. atmarquardt.substack.com/p/trump-admini…

Not only do I think a SECDEF should have *heard* of the Battle of Midway, I'd expect them to understand how the "torpedos or bombs" decision may have been pivotal in the Pacific War. I love how people think "expecting people to know things about their field" is a "gotcha"

🇺🇸🇺🇦 In SASC hearing, Senator Shaheen presses Hegseth, Caine and Hurst on the status of the $400 million in ECB funds. SASC received a transmittal confirming the funds would be obligated to support Ukraine. Details on how the spend plan is being developed between Elbridge Colby and EUCOM Commander Grynkewich aren't clear. Hurst says they are getting a legal opinion on transferring the funds to the USAI account, which is what I suggested they do.

Scoop via @CBSNews: A major fire broke out this week on the USS Higgins, a guided-missile destroyer, sources told @JimLaPorta and me. The fire knocked out electricity and propulsion on the destroyer, a mainstay of the Navy’s forward presence in Asia. Details of how the fire started and the exact location of the Higgins in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command were not readily available. More here: cbsnews.com/news/uss-higgi…

Do not use bespoke weapons to make a point or test them for some godforsaken reason. To call it a “test” is misleading. That would require the ability to gather data, or truth, on all sorts of things from flight dynamics, warhead accuracy, etc. Using it to make a point discloses weapon system performance and possible limitations to potential adversaries. Please and thank you for attending my TED Talk
Colby Badhwar@ColbyBadhwar

🇺🇸 CENTCOM has made a Request for Forces submission to have the US Army's Dark Eagle Long Range Hypersonic Weapon deployed to their Area of Responsibility. The justification is that Iran has moved their own missile TELs beyond the 500km range of the US Army's Precision Strike Missile. It would be the first combat deployment for the system, which has not yet completed operational testing. Via Bloomberg

@WeaponScientist Nope. Just a wonderful piece of real world testing and demonstration And for the first real atmospheric hypersonic missile, its use in any combat would be a big signal to our adversaries of our real world capabilities
