Unpopular opinion: Some religious customs are inherently sexist and should absolutely be open to criticism and scrutiny if we want to maintain a functioning secular society

The last few days have exposed just how much of the left still carries a colonial mindset. A Palestine flag or a triangle in your bio means very little if your solidarity ends the moment Palestinians or other Indigenous peoples assert the right to define our own values, norms, and future. Decolonization isn’t just opposition to mass killing. It means Indigenous people reclaiming the right to shape our own society on our own terms, not having Western political, cultural, or social standards imposed on us all over again.

people aren't obligated to talk about religion in "respectful" tones to spare the feelings of people who still believe😭 religion is not a divine truth, you can’t demand politeness for a 7th century ideology that dehumanizes women and queer people

@bimbocommunist @workercouncil_p Yes you have the right to refuse to shake hands with black people, but people will rightly call you out for being racist for not seeing the people you share society with as equals worthy of your respect.

CONGRATULATIONS Iowa and Illinois – you're more humid than the Amazon Rainforest. Blame the corn. A single acre of mature corn this time of year can evapotranspirate, or "sweat," between 2,000 and 4,000 gallons of water per day. That moisture festers in the lower atmosphere, making the heat index values unbearable. Dew points could reach 80 DEGREES. LUCKY US! Every cubic meter of air is holding more than half a shot glass' worth of water. For comparison, the highest dew point I could find in the Amazon was 79º. So parts of Iowa and Illinois... yep. More humid. Enjoy. :/

"Do you think Muslim women aren't capable of deciding for themselves if they like Islamic modesty laws?" No, I think they're making a deliberate choice to be complicit in patriarchy just like conservative Christian women are

I don't know why these people always gravitate to "they don't shake our hands because they think we're inferior" rather than "not touching unrelated women is a pretty good safeguard to avoid things ever getting out of hand." Sex is a very powerful drive, it's worth having safeguards in place.

Incredibly weird watching a ton of people say that women are weird because they don't want to touch men because of their beliefs as Muslims
