@ErizhaClay Sure, sometimes students a quiet environment to work- that's not the same as believing silence needs to be the default

@teachbk When students are trying to think, it needs to be quiet enough for them to do so. That's not a teacher being selfish. It's her taking the trouble to keep the environment good for learning.

So much of classroom management discourse is really about teacher preference. We absolutely should be questioning the default (traditional) practices and why we continue to protect them at the expense of our learners
The Helpful Teacher@HelpfulTeacher_

The classroom default should be pin-drop silence 🔕 There is time for collaboration, think-pair-shares, discussion and debate When the teacher decides so But the default is silence. That's the only way education can work, and it's how students should enter the room 🚪 #Edchat

If AI writes your lesson plans, designs assignments, grades student work, composes emails to families, or "transforms teaching and planning in any way" I hope you're honest about it. Your principal, colleagues, students, and parents have the right to know.
Nicole Lee Schroeder, PhD@Nicole_Lee_Sch

If genAI is so "good" then lets put a tag on everything produced with it. Tag your products, tag your writing, hell tag your college diploma. Lets see what the market actually thinks when AI usage is fully disclosed.

@teachbk When a teacher uses A.I., students and parents should be told when and how A.I. tools are being used. Students and parents have a right to know that the teacher did not do the intellectual work.

Even the best ELA curriculum that builds content knowledge in social studies and science is not a valid substitute for the explicit teaching of social studies and science. Students need to develop the critical thinking skills & mental models needed for those specific disciplines
Mrs. K@MelK_Ed

@NiaEducational @CurriculumIP You need an ELA program that integrates the reading of science and social studies into ELA (reading and writing) without that integration everything is surface level and true knowledge building/rigor/engagement is lost I don’t see how anyone could fit all of IR into 90 mins

@teachbk My 4th & 5th graders just "taught" their 1st grade buddies about erosion, deposition, weathering, plate tectonics, volcanoes, & earthquakes. We had 2 sessions. After the 1st session, my kids came back needing to do more research because the 1st graders "asked so many questions."

@DanaPalubiak Yes. Beacuse, as usual, the answer is, "it depends." The more we embrace nuance, the better we can make decisions that serve students' best interests

@teachbk I’ve seen classrooms that were quiet and compliant and not much learning happening. And I’ve seen “noisy” rooms full of real thinking. It’s not about the volume but rather it’s about the work being done.

One in four people raised Muslim have left Islam, which means that all polls of Muslim opinion substantially understate the degree of Muslim immigrant assimilation since leaving Islam is a type of assimilation. In my post today I document how big this bias...

I maintain that the single most insufferable thing about New Yorkers is that they bewilderingly try to claim everything. This transcends politics—all New Yorkers do this. Yes, everyone has coffee. Everyone has convenience stores (nicer than your “bodegas”). Everyone has what you have and it’s usually cleaner and cheaper!

When I tell people I'm an Afro Latina Muslim, people say "Of course you are. You're a New Yorker." Grateful to celebrate with loved ones today, & grateful that our community is so richly diverse that we can honor all parts of ourselves today & everyday. Eid Mubarak, New York!

One 3rd grade project is a research unit where the kids had to learn all about Egypt and then write lessons plans, create resources, and teach a group of second graders about their topic

Our school district doesn't have time in the ELA curriculum for books and novels anymore. We use HMH now. Fast pacing chart monitored by district administration. Oh, you can still read books if you find the time. But there is no time.
