27 minutes played in his first outing. I thought Tatum looked very good for first game. Obviously will get back in rhythm eventually but ZERO hesitation on step-backs. Remember, this is how the injury happened so that is noteworthy. Also got above the rim, looked increasingly comfortable, esp 3rd Q. Props to broadcast crew for also crediting Dr. O’Malley and all athletic trainers/physical therapists involved in his rehab.

Excited to see the return of Jayson Tatum for the Celtics, 10 months post-Achilles repair. ESPN’s Jorge Sedano reported there will be no minutes restriction on him tonight.

@Noahpinion I’d say it’s more, crime was the proximate cause of NIMBYism a few decades back. But crime fell and NIMBYism remained, I think because the NIMBY’s built a system that just keeps rattling on + NIMBYism is a way of life for people who just want no change to their built environment.

I agree with this. The proximate reason for this is the shortage of housing and the difficulty of development. But the root cause is crime, which both makes cities less livable and prompts them to use NIMBYism to keep poor people away.

There's no positive, inspirational vision of what an American city can be today. The Creative Class vision, best epitomized by peak Portland. And the related Global City vision, epitomized by Bloomberg's New York, were this. But those have faltered and nothing has replaced them.

@mattyglesias @conorsen This is literally exactly what happened in Chicago with Mott St. and then Mini Mott. But then they made Mini Mott into a sit down restuarant and it closed. Which maybe proves your friend’s point.

This is funny to me because in Atlanta there was a foodie spot like this that had a cult late night burger that took over the place, and because of that they shut the restaurant down and opened a burger place.
Bloomberg@business

Restaurants are difficult businesses in normal conditions, but in DC, political cycles are changing all the time, and different bars and restaurants become associated with specific parties who go in and out of power. On this episode of the Odd Lots podcast, Bart Hutchins, the chef-owner at MAGA hotspot, Butterworth's, joins @thestalwart and @tracyalloway to discuss food costs, labor availability, political affiliations and why you won't find a burger on the menu apple.co/4lTgFT6

Maybe it's my local affiliate, but I basically just saw Gainwell running down the sideline. Didn't even know that PIT was going for it.

I personally find it pretty offensive to burn an American flag, but it is even more offensive to *ban* that burning—goes against everything America stands for

vandalizing property you own (a flag you yourself purchased) is not a crime, vandalizing property you don’t own (somebody else’s flag you ripped down) is a crime. I thought conservatives believed in property rights?
Christopher F. Rufo ⚔️@christopherrufo

I’m sympathetic to the argument that burning the American flag is protected speech, but right now we are putting people in prison for spinning their tires over the Pride flag, so it might be a good idea to have the debate about which symbols are sacred in America today

@conorsen On group 3, I think it’s better to say, dems are worried about Trump destroying the Fed, partisan Republicans are pretending it’s fine

Three of the different camps out there right now (not saying they’re the only three): -crypto/Trump people who are leaning into Fed changes and the budget deficit -Very Serious economists focused on the structural deficit -partisan Dems who worry Trump will destroy the Fed

@chicagobars Pandemic funding covered a temporary ridership dip. But ridership is longterm down, so state funding is needed once pandemic funding ends. Mismanagement happened, but it isn’t the reason for this problem. We either continue to have public transit, or we don’t.

Transit bros loved me when I pointed out Dorval Carter’s abject leadership failures. Now they are mad I don’t support giving his old staffers a billion a year in new regressive taxes. 🤔

@CJ_Purnell @RamblingInanity @sdamico @ImpulseLabs_ It can bring room temp water to a boil in 40 seconds. The battery lets you throw way more power at it at once, so higher high heats. Higher (and more precise) heat also makes it better for cooking most meat.
