🚨 GAME ANNOUNCEMENT!
We’re working on not 1, but 2 new games for 2026:
1. A Far Cry-inspired open-world shooter with drivable vehicles and a zombie twist
2. A hardcore tactical milsim (reveal next week)
Zero Caliber: Frostbite is the first - built on everything we’ve learned from ZC1 & 2.
Open-ended missions, full freedom of approach, and a dynamic world filled with enemy soldiers, zombies, and unexpected encounters.
More soon!

Notes from @c_pruett from @Meta talk on “The State of the VR Ecosystem.”
A few interesting takeaways that stood out to @JoyReignVr & I…
Current Data
• Quest has more users in 2025 than ever before
• Overall Quest Store revenue is slightly up compared to 2024
• In-app purchases grew 10% year-over-year
• 1 million+ Horizon+ subscribers
• $20 million paid out so far to Developers whose Games are apart of Horizon + Catalog.
• Oculus Publishing launched 140 games in 2025
What’s Coming Next
• New hardware is definitely coming (multiple devices are currently in development)
• Horizon Worlds has officially been removed from the App Store as Meta continues shifting its platform strategy
Market Direction
The traditional “VR enthusiast” audience is still present, but Meta sees the next major growth opportunity in mainstream adults who are primarily looking for entertainment experiences.
Behavior Trends
Chris also shared some predictions based on observation rather than hard data:
• Teens & young adults prioritize social connection and multiplayer experiences
• Games with strong physics systems and meme-style gameplay (think viral sandbox experiences) are gaining traction
• Hand tracking will become increasingly important, especially as mainstream adults lean toward controller-free experiences
It’s always fascinating hearing how platform holders view the future of XR.
Curious to see how these trends evolve over the next few years.#MetaGDC #GDC2026

Companies like Meta subsidize third party developers in various ways to help grow their platforms, then take 30% of the developer revenue right back with the platform tax, which is a wasteful churn.
Epic’s tax structure of zero for the first $1M / year in revenue seems like a clean solution. You would still need explicit subsidies to get certain types of games / apps created at all, but it perfectly rewards what you actually want: increased economic activity, versus a biased pre-selection process.
@TimSweeneyEpic Have there been any unexpected perverse incentives as a result of this policy?
If it wasn’t so easily exploited by buying your own app, a negative rate “earned income tax credit” for initial revenue would actually be a good incentive for a platform like Quest.

Last year I built a full Unity VR/MR demo for our talk and the Meta booth, and it took me around 3–4 weeks to complete. This year, with only a week left before GDC, I was definitely feeling the pressure.
Surprisingly, I ended up building a full VR game with AI in just one day. The tech stack 👇

Surfacing to say @Steam Frame looks like a great HMD. It's incredibly light which is key for long dev/game sessions. Of course it comes in all Black ⚫️ with a wireless PC link, Snapdragon 8 gen3+16gb ram and they even gave options for top/controller straps. Dreamy! Will deploy😍
