@LilHurl Oh come on. You cant be serious about judging a regime off a one draft when they didnt have a 2nd roind pick after trading for CMC who won OPOY that season

@SulligentHUB Okay and who did the Niners draft at those positions in 2023 and are they still on the roster?

If the 49ers front office is so aloof to what succeeds in the leage and so bad at drafting players, why have so many teams poached so many front office people from the 49ers? These 2 things cannot be true at the same time.

Throwing out 2024 is premature, to me. Injuries and coaching staff turnover have greatly hampered development. Pearsall, Puni, Mustapha all experienced significant injury situations that hampered on-field performance evaluation. Renardo Green has had a different D-coor each year and played behind no pass rush. Still too early, for me.

@SulligentHUB They've been a disaster at drafting from 2021-2024 and the jury is still out on 2025 hence all the angst for the 2026 draftees because We don't trust Kyle Shanahan doing the drafting. Let him coach but let someone else handle the personnel department.

Part of the problem with the discourse over the 49ers drafting is two extreme views. 1. They suck at drafting 2. They've drafted perfectly fine, no issues and have been great. The truth is they've been OK at drafting the past 6-7 years. They have 15 home grown players who've played significant snaps, but havent had a lot of blue chip perfromance. Theyve hit a lot of singles and doubles, but no home runs.

@SulligentHUB @mtascavage You can get away with 0 all-pros in two years if you are winning superbowls. We just got spanked by them and your god lynch is worried about drafting blocking receivers while we avg 1.3 ypc against his defense

"The 49ers 2021 draft was awful!" I've seen this get lumped in with 2022 and 2023. The Trey Lance pick was turrible. Bad. Awful. Outside of that, they picked Aaron Banks who left and was paid top-5 guard money - at the time. Talanoa Hufanga left after being an all-pro and was signed as a top-10 paid safety, at the time. Deommodore Lenoir was given a big 2nd contract by the organization - one many of the same people lauded at the time because they finally got ahead of a contract negotiation and signing for value. 3 big-time 2nd contract guys picked in the 2nd, 5th and 5th rounds - all players who contributed big-time significant snaps on a team that went to 2 NFCCG's and a SB while they were playing. 2 were let go, not because of lack of talent, but because there were too many mouths to feed because the team had so much talent. Let's not revisionist this stuff.

@Coach_Yac That's my point. The discourse over that hasnt been reasonable takes. It's "They suck so bad at drafting". They haven't had home-runs. But that's not being "bad" it's not being really good. There's a difference. We have two extremes happening.

“They have 15 home grown players who've played significant snaps, but havent had a lot of blue chip perfromance.” That’s the issue. 2 Pro Bowl picks (1 isn’t here anymore) since 2021 and when you have several stars who only have 2-4 seasons left is concerning. And the guys who are leaving aren’t just pro bowl talent, their all pro talent

@gapswagg @mtascavage You still didn't answer the question. Weird that you're including 2021 and 2027. Didn't know Hufanga was a 2x all-pro not drafted in the year he was drafted and you can predict the future. This is peak social media posting, 😂😂

@gapswagg @mtascavage I'll give you props for dodging the question. I'm asking you based off YOUR metric. You established the lane of judgement, you cant now dodge it as if it is inadequate.

People do need some context to this. His receiving ability - or questions about it, is the 1st, 2nd and 3rd reasons why Kaelon Black was considered a reach. It's not his skill as a RB. Evals pinned him as only a 1st and 2nd down back. IF...IF a team felt he had the receiving ability traits to be an every down back, the running ability put him squarely in the top 5 of RB's in this class.
JonnyDel's Backup@SulligentHUB

so @JohnLynch49ers said they fell in love with Kaelon Black at the senior bowl and his 1v1's in the pass game. Here's what they fell in love with. Included some other backs in the bag drills for comparison.

@align_orozco None of his coaches? What are you talking about?!? Robert Saleh was just hired as the Titans coach, DeMeco has been in Houston going on his 4th season, Kubiak just got hired as HC of the Raiders. Did McVay and LeFleur not work under Kyle?

@SulligentHUB Ya… but none of them have lasted anywhere yet. Neither have Shanahan’s coaches. We’ve had enough time to see the trends. Winning disguises a lot of issues. Shanahan is what every team wants, but since they can’t have him, they go after people connected to him.

@gapswagg @mtascavage I guess that 6 years doesn't include Talanoa Hufanga who's been a 2-time all-pro during that stretch..... Again, how many all-pro's has Mike Macdonald drafted with the Hawks?

@LilHurl There comes a point where injuries and circumstances hit a single area so hard, there aren't any more men left to have up. Edge rusher and WR are two examples.

@49ers_Access I think the bigger thing is asking and identifies the whys. It wasnt lack of physical ability.

It was for the same reasons I just stated.....the thing is, the 49ers knew other teams saw the same pass drills, talked to the same people and they were won over that he could be an every down back and be able to be a bell cow(Lynch mentioned these two things, specifically). That means they had to believe at least one or more other teams were assuaged as well. That's why they grabbed him in the 3rd.

Black had 44 catches in 2022-23 at James Madison. Indiana just didn’t throw much to their backs. Their top 4 RBs had 23 catches combined last season. I think #49ers would use that skill set more if/when he gets on the field. He’s also a terrific blocker.
Steve Letizia@CFCBears

RB Kaelon Black wasnt used as a receiver much at Indiana (9 rec for 48 yards last two seasons) but he was a stand out on day 1 of the Senior Bowl (Matched up against Arkansas LB Xavian Sorey)

@SulligentHUB Injuries wrecked a lot of these draft prospects too. Drake Jackson showed promise getting 3 sacks against the Steelers, but gets injured and is never the same. J’ayir Brown picked off Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl. He gets injured and is never the same. And many more

This is such a horrible take given that nearly every front office has had turnover over the past 9 years except for a handful of teams and one of those are the 49ers. Why? Because they keep winning and putting together competing teams.
cozy pops@iTJD

This is such a horrible take given that damn near every front office person that has left the 49ers went on to different a team and got fired within 2-3 years. And if Washington has another bad year, better believe Adam Peters will lose his job too.

I'm not saying that about 2022 and 2023. Those draft were not good and they didn't have a first round pick in either one. My thing with what you're saying is then you're assuming Pearsall and Mykel are misses. From what we've seen, it's been injury not skill or traits that have kept them from being hits.

@SulligentHUB So you’ve made the point that since 2021 they can draft well at the end of the the draft, where “consensus” really isn’t a thing. In the first 4 rounds, they’ve been terrible and would have been significantly better if they stayed closer to consensus.

People can hate on the Kaelon Black pick but I love the kid pt. 1 seemed like every time he got the ball in his hands against Maryland it took half the team to get him on the ground.

Only pushback I have is on the Banks pick. Was considered a reach and he went ahead of two IOL that are currently considered best at their position in Meinerz/Humphrey While he did get paid, I thought he was worthy of being benched in his final year with Niners and Packers immediately regret giving him that contract
