There is a sizable chunk of people who think that it’s not socially acceptable for someone to color themselves as a skin color that they are not. I don’t give a shit as long as it’s funny. In comedy, being offended shouldn’t even be a thing. But if it isn’t funny to anyone, that’s an entirely different conversation

I don’t even think that wearing blackface itself is racist. The behavior tied to the appearance can be. Like in the olden days when people pretended to be stupid to be derogatory toward black people. Also, I personally liked Druski’s bit, but it’s fair to assume that if some people find it ok to wear white face, then there will be others that find it ok wear blackface. There are plenty of people out there with a ‘either everyone can do it or no one can do it’ mentality

The thing is that I could see a white person doing blackface having the potential to be funny. The material is definitely available, but it requires talent. To me, a white dude dressing in blackface as a hardcore hip hop artist that is secretly on the down low could be hilarious. Or playing a civil rights lawyer who celebrates a black man getting killed by the police because it’s an opportunity to get paid. I write comedy so I tend to think differently in terms of shock value, setups and punch lines. Druski did a really good job with all three and did a lot of homework. That’s more important to me than anything else

Druski is routinely viral so I can’t exactly ignore it. Also I don’t give a shit about historical relevance as much of that either inaccurate or missing context. I care about the material being funny.

That’s a bit of revisionist history there. When Tropic Thunder came out, Robert Downey Jr got a ton of heat for it. And that was a story line attempting to prove a point of how wrong blackface was. Downey Jr was also incredibly funny too, which helps. I thought this Druski skit about Erika Kirk was funny too. If it’s funny, I have no problem with their direction.
