The problem with most teams hiring a GM is that they limit themselves to the same small group of people as their candidates. 6 of the last Stanley Cups were won by GMs who played 0 games in the NHL. Could be a coincidence. But it could be a changing of the guard. If they fire Drury, it only works if they know what to look for in a GM. And that's where I have major question marks.

Defenseman take a lot longer than forwards to development. Typically 300 NHL games before you know what you have.
