I'm doing my best to contain my enthusiasm on this. I really really really really really really really hope that the overall style, atmosphere and scale translate. I want it to be dark, grungy, and feel like I'm getting jackhammered in a sardine can while playing hold outs against the swarming Zerg, choking down the acidic nightmare of survival in the Koprulu Sector. A corroded future, thick with rust and jury-rigged tech slamming against ancient psionic fury and the pure, ravenous biological nightmare of the Zerg. Cities crumble under orbital fire, marines weld scrap barricades with shaking hands, the ground blackens under endless waves of screeching zerglings, rumbling from siege canon fire while the air fills with the wet rip of infestation That’s the scale I want. That’s the atmosphere. Raw. Unforgiving. Carnage. Fucking meat grinder. Hopeless. I want to question if I even dare pick up the controls. I want to be fucking scared to turn on my hardware.

Years ago I was going to a small convention (maybe 100 people) in Germany, and my friend (the organizer) asked me to cook one American meal for the whole group. So my wife and I pondered for a while. What could we cook that would 1) be American 2) be easy to make for a group 3) have ingredients available in Germany and 4) be unusual enough that most of the European attendees will never have seen it. Sloppy Joes came to mind. Everyone ate them as kids. And they're fairly rare in restaurants, so it's unlikely that visiting Europeans have eaten them. So we cooked up a big batch of sloppy joe mix at the hostel, and got some excellent German buns. Then as the guests came through the line, we spooned up the sloppy joes and WOW it was a hit. The Germans and French raved over it. "This is such an amazing dish." "So interesting and subtle." Three different guys told us to save some for their girlfriends who were on an outing and needed to try this incredible treat. I told them we were served these in our elementary school lunches and when our moms were too tired for something complicated, but I don't think we were believed, because it was clearly a sophisticated meal. An English guy told us that "Sloppy Joe" was a brand of clothing in Britain, and asked if the food was named after the brand. The hostel owner also made a small pan of vegetarian sloppy joe slop for those who needed it. I asked him if the vegetarian version would taste good, and he said, "I have no idea. I would never eat that." Hurra fur Deutschland! I did not add pickles or cheese etc. to my sloppy joes. I did cook bell peppers into the meat though because at my house that's required. Also don't buy Manwich. That's gross.
