@fuckkd8 @0ccultbot To be fair there were many ”Great Libraries” around the same time, most notably the “Library of Pergamum” and the “Royal Library” at Antioch. A lot of work at Alexandria was indeed copying and distributing scrolls, and also replacing those that had deteriorated.

The library of Alexandria was burned to consolidate knowledge to a select group. Originals and copies were kept.

@fuckkd8 @0ccultbot The temple was added to the Library by Ptolemy ll/lll in the 3c CE long after the first fire caused by Caesar. The point I was trying to make was that there was a library at Alexandria for nearly 1000 years, it didn’t just “burn down” it gradually declined over 100s of years.

@fuckkd8 @0ccultbot That was the first time it was burned, and it was an accident after Caesar set fire to the docks It was burned twice more after that, 4c CE (by Christians when the Temple was converted to the Church of St John) and finally 6c CE (Muslims because most of the books were heretical)
