My feed is full of sportsbros celebrating that General Conference will no longer get in the way of the Final Four (they'll claim they're joking, but they're not really).
I’ve been arguing for a while now that sports have evolved into a form of idolatry for many, often superseding spiritual priorities. Seeing people relieved that they don't have to choose between an Apostle and a basketball game, or worse, openly prioritizing the game, just confirms that theory.
Consider this hypothetical: Imagine BYU basketball makes a run to the National Championship game. But, the game is scheduled for a Sunday. The Church holds the line on Sabbath observance and refuses to let the team play, forfeiting the title shot.
How many of you would be mad at the church and the brethren? You know what you’d do? You’d crumble. You would literally lose your minds. You’d be on here crying real tears because you couldn't watch a bunch of 19-year-olds run cardio for two hours.
