Anyone that thinks they aren’t breaking the law is sadly very mistaken. I’m for having clubs in Texas but not for owners profiting from it. Run tournaments rake free and have them pay time like a cash game. Make sure staff is taken care of, but the owners should profit from playing there not owning it.

The affidavit does say the following: "Additionally, a public complaint (#3824166) was filed with TABC on 04/03/2024 which referenced a 2005 opinion written by then Attorney General Greg Abbott that stated a business that holds an On-Premise alcoholic beverage permit could not hold poker tournaments where real money was at risk by participants." So, they had a permit and held poker tournaments, so therefore they're going to say it's illegal gambling.

@ChadAHolloway The only thing that stands out to me is profiting 1.35 million in two months. That comes out to approx 23000 a day in membership fees. That’s about 2300 people paying 10 dollars a day to play. Don’t know much about the lodges daily player pool to really say but sounds high.

I have read Search and Seizure Warrant against The Lodge in full, and it does appear to be a witch hunt. Essentially, they're deeming poker in TX illegal and therefore classifying what we'd consider normal banking transactions as money laundering because it's proceeds from what they say is illegal gambling. All the undercover operations outlined in the affidavit describe a normally functioning, well-run poker room. To me, nothing in it suggests what we in the poker world would consider scandalous/nefarious, but rather authorities simply taking a stance on the grey area/loophole that they consider illegal.
