A lot of the praise for this era I see around is coupled with contempt towards modern Spider-Man but never see how was it an improvement to pre-1988 Spider-Man, maybe Spectacular was but Amazing was in the trenches until JMS and even that one fell off after Book of Ezekiel

Going back to read the silver and bronze age stories a few years ago made me feel like the marriage era was a step down in writing outside of a few runs, especially the main ASM book
