As we pivot from ground-controlled space missions to autonomous, AI-driven orbital infrastructure, the question is not just how we get to Mars, but who governs the logic that guides us there. Light-speed delay makes it unavoidable. One-way communications to Mars range from 3 to 24 minutes, with round-trip times up to 44 minutes. No real-time commands from Earth are possible when issues arise on the surface or in orbit. This video illustrates the difference perfectly. Traditional control means long waits and limited actions. Real-time AI lets the rover detect obstacles, evaluate paths, select safe routes, and execute instantly. NASA has therefore increased autonomy on Perseverance. The rover now determines its precise position in minutes by matching onboard camera images to orbital maps. It performs over 90 percent of its driving independently, plans routes, avoids hazards, and selects science targets in real time. This shift is accelerating across the board. Onboard AI handles navigation, fault recovery, science operations, and critical decisions. Starship-class missions and future crewed flights will require even higher levels of independence. Humans cannot micromanage systems millions of miles away. The core challenge remains: who develops, certifies, and oversees the decision-making logic when an autonomous system must choose between safety, mission goals, or new science opportunities? NASA, SpaceX, international bodies, or the AI models themselves? We are delegating real authority to code that operates beyond immediate human control. This governance discussion needs to happen now, ahead of the first crewed Mars missions. What are your thoughts? I thought this deserved a chance with the real us dancing instead of an animation. The animation was based on a Google Photos remix from a real photo which I uploaded last year, and this is a Grok imagine video with an AI waltz from the same real picture. Which do you prefer?

I haven't shared this story with many people, but today is a good time to do it I think, being Donna's birthday. Donna and I met in 1962. We attended the same grammar school. For the next 8 years, we attended the same school. We didn't run in the same circles. She was a very beautiful girl and my head was stuck in Outer Space. I last saw her in 1970. Fast forward 50 years. We both wound up on the 50th High School reunion planning committee. I did not even recognize who she was because of course she had a different last name. And had been a widow for 15 years. Turns out, she had been following my career. She told me she always thought I would be at NASA. It was in the middle of Covid. I lived in Florida and was caring for my sick wife of 45 years. After my wife passed, Donna sent me a touching FB message. We had a few conversations over Messenger. 6 months later, I went to visit my mom and asked Donna if she wanted to meet up. So we did. And I gave her Covid. Yes, it was all part of my evil plan.😆 Long story short, we just celebrated our 3rd anniversary. 🎂

I think 𝕏 should give us block analytics. I don't think we need to know who... but knowing how many, when, from where, verified or not, and any other demographics, would be helpful.

Do you believe this post from Nikita? I don't. We have been complaining about block lists forever. I even made a detailed post about the extentions people use to do it (check my archive). I think this is a copout. There is nothing in the released code (May 15) that supports his conclusion here. In fact, he has recently stated he has nothing to do with the algorithm, and has no engineers working on it. Did xAi make a tweak recently? Have you seen your reach suddenly improve? So what is he really doing with this reply? Just trying to placate the masses? Let me know what you think below.

When 𝕏 says “links will not deboost your post,” I think the wording matters. A post is not automatically penalized just because it has a link, but what happens after people click? If a post drives a lot of traffic off-platform, does that behavior affect the post reach at all? Because “this post contains a link” and “this post is causing people to leave the platform” are probably not the same signal to the algo.
