Erasure coding improves data reliability by adding redundant information so that lost data can still be recovered. Traditional erasure coding creates fixed parity blocks based on the original data. As long as enough pieces are received, the original data can be reconstructed.
RLNC (Random Linear Network Coding) works differently. It mixes original data pieces into random linear combinations. Each transmitted packet is a unique mix, and the receiver can recover the full data from enough of these mixed packets.
𝗥𝗟𝗡𝗖 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀:
- Performs better in networks with unpredictable packet loss
- Requires less redundancy for the same level of reliability
- More flexible and adaptive to changing network conditions
- Allows intermediate nodes to combine packets, improving efficiency in multi-hop transmission

For validators, the key question is whether new technology can improve returns. mump2p, @get_optimum propagation layer, shows promising results on testnet with average block propagation around 150ms significantly faster than traditional methods while reducing bandwidth usage by 90–95%. These improvements can benefit validators in three main ways: - 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: Faster propagation reduces missed attestations and proposals. - 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗘𝗩 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: Lower latency gives more time to include profitable MEV bundles. - 𝗟𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀: Significant bandwidth reduction can decrease infrastructure expenses. While exact gains depend on individual setups, the combination of fewer missed rewards, improved MEV opportunities, and reduced bandwidth costs suggests that mump2p has the potential to improve overall validator ROI. Testnet data indicates that better data propagation can lead to more stable and efficient staking performance, especially for validators running at scale.
