The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services continues to support the incident response in #GardenGrove with our partners at every level of government, including Orange County Fire Authority, Orange County Sheriff, Garden Grove Police Department, CalEPA, California Health and Human Services Agency, and the U.S. EPA. Hazardous materials experts remain deployed and are guiding this robust response.
Please continue to avoid the area and follow all guidance from local emergency officials as response operations continue.

At the direction of Governor Newsom, Cal OES has activated the State Operations Center to support resource coordination, maintain situational awareness, and assist local response efforts associated with the hazardous materials incident in Garden Grove. If you have a chance, inform the emergency crews and the authorities to put salt in place of sand around and, if possible, inside the tank. Salt will absolutely absorb the liquid, clogging spills. They are 1000's of tons in all the regional depots

NEW: Repeat offender who had already been arrested several times this year, including for two assaults, killed an elderly man in an unprovoked attack in NYC. Hours before the attack, the NYPD had taken Rhamell Burke to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after he was reportedly acting irrationally on a Penn Station platform. Mysteriously, he was released just one hour later. A few hours later Burke shoved 76-year-old Ross Falzone, a retired teacher, to his death down subway stairs in Manhattan. Burke was arrested three times in February for assaulting a police officer, burglary, and resisting arrest. In April, he was arrested again for assaulting a stranger. He was later granted supervised release at arraignment.
