BREAKING: Gaza genocide death toll tops 72,938 as Israeli attacks continue 🔴 LIVE updates: aje.news/ejgl5z?update=…

While not surprising given positions Mayor Mamdani has taken for years, it is still deeply disappointing and disheartening that Mayor Mamdani will be the first mayor in the 62-year history of the Israel Day Parade to not attend this annual celebration. It is worth noting that this is nothing more than a peaceful and positive celebration of the existence of the only Jewish state in the world, and that more than 85% of American Jews feel a deep connection to Israel. At a time when Israel is faced with serious existential threats, and the New York Jewish community is experiencing record levels of antisemitism, it speaks volumes that the mayor can't even bring himself to make an appearance at the city's largest and most visible Jewish celebration. jewishinsider.com/2026/05/mamdan…

Transgender rabbi Abby Stein, who played a major role in rallying left-wing Jewish support for Mamdani during the Democratic primary, was also seen swanning into the event.

A mayor represents every New Yorker. Using City Hall resources to post a one-sided video about Israel’s founding — omitting the UN partition plan, the Arab rejection, the reasons that many Palestinians left, the many who stayed and the 850,000 Jewish refugeesforced to leave Arab lands — isn’t commemoration. It’s propaganda. Releasing it right before Shabbat isn’t leadership. It’s provocation. Especially when Nakba Day “commemorations” in this city featured open support for US-designated terror organizations, veneration of their leaders, and calls for Israel’s destruction. New Yorkers deserve a mayor with the moral clarity to call that out.
