The film took place within a few days, it wasn’t stating this as perpetual practice throughout the entire 3500yr history. It was during a planned event and coinciding an eclipse. This is precisely when such sacrifices would have occurred.

But they definitely had it at times, it is well documented within their own codex, skeletal remains, and artifacts.
