A man earns 1.2 crores per annum in Mumbai. His job is high pressure, long hours at a SaaS startup. He has employed a maid & cook at home. He takes care of all utilities, expenses, vacations, investments etc. His wife also works and makes 13 lakhs a year in an advertising agency. She spends this money on herself, and invests the rest. They have a daughter after 3 years of marriage. After her maternity leave is over, he asks her to leave her job (this was discussed before marriage), and take care of the kid. But, she takes a U-turn and refuses. He is even ready to give her a credit card for her personal spending, similar to what she did with her salary. She still doesn't agree. Now, they are forced to leave the kid with a nanny throughout the day. He isn't happy about it. Note that, none of their parents are alive, so the kid can't be left with grandparents. Now, everyday they are having fights over this. Even though his working hours are longer, she tells him her work is equally important, and that he must equally contribute in parenting (at night). He says he is already contributing as he is bearing all the childcare expenses. She tells him, it's not about the money, it's about the time. He says, if he stays up at night, he can't work during the day. She gives the same logic. She taunts him if he is so concerned about the kid, why don't he leave his job and look after the kid. He taunts her back that he is okay to do so, but then she must earn the same as he earns. Then, they both get silent. After a few minutes, the wife starts crying, and says, why can't he understand why my job is so important. He asks her to explain why. She doesn't answer. He asks her back, that he can't understand why her work with so little salary is so important than taking care of their own child. It's illogical. I end the session and ask them to ponder on their questions and come back next time with answers. ladies, and gentlemen, what do you think they should do? #RealStory

The hotel Flourish Stays in Malaviya Nagar, where the fire incident has killed 21 people so far, had permission for only 6 rooms but was operating 25. It didn't have fire safety clearance either. No surprises. I'm sure 90% of hotels operate like this. MCD knows, they come for inspections, take their cut, and leave. It's only after such tragedies that these irregularities make the news. Will the police arrest any MCD officials responsible for ensuring that hotels operate as per the norms? No way. They'll probably arrest the hotel's restaurant cooking staff because the fire apparently started in the kitchen.

For investors in Indian markets: Short-term capital gains tax (stocks held <1 year) went from 15% to 20% two years ago. Long-term capital gains tax (held >1 year) went from 10% to 12.5% two years ago. And FIIs outflow since then: 2025: Record ₹1.66 lakh crore net - the highest annual FII outflow ever recorded in Indian markets. 2026: ₹1.51 lakh crore net just until April 2026. Just a 2% increase matters a lot if you are an FII investing billions. FIIs invest in India because of high growth opportunities, but a depreciating rupee and an increase in taxes means they may move out their capital. And FIIs definitely move their capital when they sense global issues may drag India's growth. We are already seeing this. This causes more stresses to India's economy, currency, and companies. Even if futures and options keep their increases in STT (for various reasons it can be argued to make sense), for capital gains from equities, this increase in tax definitely needs to be reconsidered by GoI. An idea I propose is the increases in taxes can be applied (some other way) only for FIIs, and only when they are taking out the capital from the country. Not sure how it can be implemented, or if it is even practical. If not, the increases in CGT must be reconsidered, and reverted for at least the time being, to incentivize FIIs and DIs in investing in India's growth story.
