I think the 1.76m $FFH.TO shares they control via the TRS are also just deferred buybacks. Meanwhile, fans of Outsiders can’t believe their lying eyes.

@devilsbanker You could sell for below market rate, but why would you do that?

There is a good case to be made that a one-time reduction in taxes and fees translates into a one-time price reduction in homes, all else equal.
But it is never all else equal.

“We live in a country with no sales tax on caviar and foie gras. But if a family with kids wants to buy a small, entry-level townhome, they pay tens of thousands in HST, and if you suggest lowering these housing taxes, progressives will cry that you're subsidizing the rich.” - @MikePMoffatt

@devilsbanker I bet you will take whatever the market gives you irrespective of regime.

@evrgn11112231 Is $META seriously 10x NTM EBITDA ? Or is screening service wrong ?

@TatarynMary @StepUPnow_ca They NFPs are all audited. Some audits are behind schedule but there are records. If you ask bureaucrats st VCH & BC Housing to explain the spending I’m sure you get a garbage answer
English

@StepUPnow_ca There must be books and an accounting system! Where is the checks and balances. Taxpayers spend 5 million dollars a day in the DTES! 🤬

@StepUPnow_ca @SassyMay18 Nobody is profiting. If you mean money is being spent - sure. Mostly wages to nurses and union members who care for these people on the streets.

@BoringBiz_ Yes. Now developing real estate and spending time with my girls.

@604Donny @iamkennethchan @JohnnyUtahVan I think it would cost hundreds of $ per square foot to renovate. So I don’t agree on the $45M. I’d also like to see the wards opened and re claim our city streets.
But the voting base disagrees!
English

@devilsbanker @iamkennethchan @JohnnyUtahVan It would probably be cheaper to reopen the psych wards, would reduce overdoses, would clean up the streets, would lower crime.
According to estimates, it would cost $45m/yr to reopen such a facility. Still saving money.

English

@604Donny @iamkennethchan @JohnnyUtahVan And as I’ve said, if you’d like to reopen then psych wards then you will pay the bills to operate those.
There is no cheap fix to deal with this population
English

@604Donny @iamkennethchan @JohnnyUtahVan It’s mostly labor cost paid to union workers - there isn’t much room to cut/negotiate.
It’s not just about giving them $ for a room to rent. These people have medical needs & require nursing. So your $1800/mo x population does not come close to addressing the problem
English

@604Donny @iamkennethchan @JohnnyUtahVan Second, these people absolutely trash the SROs they are given and you will constantly need to renovate. Renovation can cost $30,000 every time a tenant moves out.
Who is offering you the apartments to house these people ? No landlord I’ve met will
English

@604Donny @iamkennethchan @JohnnyUtahVan First, the reason we spend the money is because society voted to close involuntary facilities. If you’d like to renovate & re open then you’ll pay NFPs & nurses to run those instead. Will that be cheaper ?
English

@604Donny @iamkennethchan @JohnnyUtahVan DTES is mental illness and drug addiction. The budgets are intended to triage and minimize it getting worse.
Nobody involved expects the current budget to improve conditions
English

@devilsbanker @iamkennethchan @JohnnyUtahVan The point of the article.. tens of millions (or hundreds of millions), and the situation has only gotten worse, by most metrics.
It’s not entirely their fault, though, we can also thank the harm reduction nurses association!

@604Donny @iamkennethchan @JohnnyUtahVan What’s your expectation? They will eradicate homelessness ?
English

@devilsbanker @iamkennethchan @JohnnyUtahVan They spend $55m/yr and .. they sure have a lot to show for it.
