@frosty_rabbid Do you really need to be antagonistic, gossiping and polarizing in gamedev? This community doesn't deserve that. You can do better than him imo.

onboarding is arguably the SINGLE most important part of any consumer app it is where you solidify in the consumer's mind why they NEED your app a common mistake i see far too often in the consumer app space is that founders focus way too much on selling consumers with FEATURES instead of selling them with FEELINGS reality is that consumers don't care about what your app can do they care about what your app can do for THEM this is why the highest converting apps sell consumers on a TRANSFORMATION

@ATinyGreenCell I get your point but there are startups that are different. People even find meaning in grinding the most repetitive online games for internet points (and the same hrs). Enterprise SaaS has more creativity and can be the step to higher pursuits. There is nuance, YMMV.

@dwideruser Enterprise B2B SaaS is hardly meaningful and often that meaning is just a stand in for "am paid veey well for it". Working on personhood and self worth is far more important than financial gains, but our silly ape brains are stuck in survival mode so we cant think beyond cash.

Outside of obvious high energy costs, investors don't invest into Germany because, high taxes, lack of local skilled talent and bureaucracy. Merz thinks he can just throw [tax] money at the problem with 600B funds, but that's not what attracts investors. it's downright impossible to build unicorn in western europe - and those exits are what tech investors aim for. they are not looking for 50-year manufacturing behemoth. They want 3-year billion-eur eval, public exit or aggressive market growth. They want "Silicon Valley way"... which doesn't look possible today. Talent is draining, taxes are too high (income and business), and paperwork needed is abysmal. Plus EU tech regulations... those don't help either. But that's a secondary problem.

Merz announces that Germany is Back 🇩🇪 He states that "Germany is back. It’s worth investing in Germany again. We are not a location of the past, but a location of the present and above all the future.” Which comes after announcing 600 billion euros in private investments

@lugaricano Worth noting that, like in capitalism, natural emergence of subduement patterns are vastly more efficient and culturally accepted. see plight of slaves (took millennia to resolve), animal mass harvesting and environmental destruction. even the "most evil plan" pales against this.

I just watched "Die Wannseekonferenz" (2022): a group of highly educated, dedicated bureaucrats discussing rationally and calmly about the most evil plan in the history of humanity-maybe the lowest point in our history. Worth watching, deeply unsettling. (Incredible how many of them got away with it after the war)

@Sentient_Media @FAO You can draw a similar line for pollution, CO² etc It all boils down to population growth and human intrinsic lack of care about how others live both today and in the future

Every year, tens of billions of chickens are slaughtered for consumption. According to @FAO, that number was 76.25 billion in 2023. In 1963, only 7.2 billion chickens were slaughtered for meat: an increase of over 950%.

@morallawwithin Eating meat is very weakly predictive of mental health, bestiality is a strong predictive correlate of mental illness. Apply basic probabilistic reasoning.

Lmao how is this one argument so effective at breaking flesh-eaters’ brains. They can’t even say anything remotely plausible in response they’re just like “wow you’re so dumb for asking this question”
Bentham's Bulldog🔸@Benthamsbulldog

It's weird that almost everyone thinks bestiality is severely evil but eating meat is totally fine. It would be like if most people who advocated against the sexual abuse of disabled people routinely killed and ate them!

Pay attention to how the systems you admire are built and operated. Read deep dives from a broad range of folks at companies of different sizes. Think deeply about the choices they make and why they make them. Consider economics, engineering, and organizations.

I know this kind of junk is engagement bait, but it's sad that new systems engineers see 100 ignorant ill-informed takes for every bit of good architecture advice. Microservices are fine. Take your systems advice from people who build and run systems. Ignore influencers.
ハセン حسن@hasen_95dx

While there’s no way to know ahead of time what the right architecture is (you have to discover it) there are many wrong architectures that you should avoid. “Microservice Architecture” is just the wrong architecture for any kind of problem. Period. Never even consider it.

Our artists should all be getting 100k listeners a month easily but most modern listeners simply have no taste, no attention span, no imagination. Music is reduced for boring commutes, filling otherwise silent spaces, creating a 'vibe' for tiktoks/ instagram reels. Art is dead.
