When I first started my market research business: • Couldn't get clients • Hated writing reports • Struggled to get people to act on my insights 5 years on, our client portfolio is 🔥 and we've 10x'd revenue This journey taught me 5 lessons that will help you too:

@joekent16jan19 In the middle of an ongoing situation you retweeted enemy propaganda suggesting our military was trying to killl a soldier. Fuck you.

Tapper’s purpose, like the entire corporate media, is to promote this foolish war & attack anyone who points out how this war isn’t in our nation’s interest. Read independent media, Iranian media & US media - always question those cheering on wars & always pray for our troops.
Jake Tapper 🦅@jaketapper

Former National Counterterrorism Center director Joe Kent sharing Iranian state-linked outlet nonsense claiming, falsely, that the US was trying to kill the then-lost US pilot. Aged rather poorly, I think it's fair to say.

@JATompkins Why this rather than a vote in discretionary spending?

If I were mayor of Indianapolis, I’d put the pothole problem straight to voters: a referendum for a Local Income Tax at 0.25% “Fix Roads and Plow Streets” Referendum — a time-limited (10-year sunset), independently audited, dedicated fund with a spend formula that prioritizes residential streets (currently only 7% in good condition) and winter operations. No road diets, no transit, no streetscape. Just pavement and plows. This frees up other monies for the fun trails and complete streets and transit stuff while providing an annual match (~$55M) for state monies allocated by HB 1641 for roadways. Quality of life is how we will attract future workers. Good roads are good place to start.

iOS developers: How long is App Review taking for everyone these days? It is now taking longer to get our app approved than it is to build the actual features.

NEWS — Trump coercing staff to wear the same black pair of shoes that he wears. “Everybody’s afraid not to wear them,” a staffer said, as some reportedly ditch their own footwear to comply with Trump’s wishes. We’re officially in the dumbest timeline.

I hate to be a scold, but social media companies seem incredibly relaxed (X most of all) about having created many thousands of highly profitable businesses based on deliberate misdirection to upset and scare people.
Alan Cole@AlanMCole

There's not that much useful to say about it--it is what it is--but the scale of the "fake Iran war videos" situation online is staggering. Obviously some fakes are fun by provocateurs, like a magic carpet dogfighting with jets. But most of it is intentional deception.

Egypt has raised domestic fuel prices by up to 30 percent, blaming “exceptional” global energy pressures caused by the Middle East war, which has disrupted oil supplies and shipping routes. The increases apply to petrol, diesel and natural gas used in vehicles.

Claude Code takes one “make me $1,000/month” prompt and autonomously builds a working prompt-pack sales site after ~1 hour 14 mins of work. - Ethan describes Claude Code interviewing him with 3 multiple-choice questions, then choosing a product: 500 “professional prompts” priced at $39. - He says Claude Code created hundreds of files, deployed a working website, and even set up a payment flow (he later disabled the sales link). - He argues the real leap is “agentic harness” + stronger models: tools like compaction (summarising state when context fills), Skills (swap-in instructions/tooling), and subagents. - He points to METR’s “time horizon” idea - tasks AI can complete with 50% reliability have been growing fast - and says these tools matter beyond coding, but today’s interfaces are still developer-first. Closing point: His core claim is that watching these coding agents work is a preview of near-future knowledge work - even if most people won’t touch the terminal-style UX yet.

I wrote about Claude Code and why non-coders should be paying attention (and playing with the system) - it shows what today’s LLMs can do Along the way I had Claude launch a business for me & build a game that simulates the rise and fall of civilizations. open.substack.com/pub/oneusefult…
