PROJECT HAIL MARY is almost completely sold out at Universal CityWalk IMAX for the next week. This is a Monday night screening. The last time I witnessed this kind of excitement in a non-franchise picture was with OPPENHEIMER.

@BadFilmTakes1 I’ve seen it ages ago but I agree (although I still haven’t seen Tokyo Godfathers). I remember thinking at the time that Aronofsky’s The Fountain was using a similar idea. Now that we all know that he pillaged Perfect Blue that wouldn’t be surprising that he did the same here.

@thelilmosquito I don’t always agree with you but I find your relentless hate for Lord and Miller extremely entertaining and liberating.

So genuinely exhausted of people acting as if I have to love the exact same films for the rest of my life and telling me that it’s wrong that I’ve grown to appreciate different things about the art I engage with. It’s not “contrarian” to expand your film taste.

@DannyDrinksWine Yeah, that’s exactly why Lynch’s movies work imo. There isn’t always an explanation, they don’t exist just to be a metaphor. Most of the time the whole point is the mystery and the unsettling. His movies aren’t made to be decoded. There are answers but they don’t come easily.

Jean-Luc Godard on why he didn't like the movies of David Lynch: "Ah, I really don't like his style at all. Lynch's dreams only speak of him. In my opinion, in his films, there are beautiful images, from a photographic point of view, and yet the image has disappeared. On the enigma of the dream, the oneiric of life, I prefer to read Edgar Poe. I have nothing against dreams. It's part of yourself. I don't know if it should be used for making movies. What matters, I would rather say, is the derivation and observation of the world. The New Wave came from the desire to accept fiction through documentary. In my opinion, the two can only go together." ("Godard Admitted to Not Liking David Lynch’s Films", Jordan Ruimy, World of Reel, 2022) Clip from: Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) Director: David Lynch

@freemasnslayr @thelilmosquito I don’t think that responding with “you’re annoying” and “your opinions are ridiculous” makes you sound very smart.

@ashotmagazine Sometimes I wonder how casting really works. It looks like they are looking for anybody from 33 to 92yo, as long as their are super famous.

Robert De Niro, Stellan Skarsgård, Daniel Craig, and Brad Pitt have all reportedly turned down the role of Christopher Dent in ‘THE BATMAN: PART II’. The role is now expected to go to an actor aged between 60 and 83.

@SweatieAngle @blakethinks Ha yeah I see. I was more ticked by the comparison to Joss Whedon than necessarily calling Russ Meyer feminist.

@flatclem @blakethinks Tbh if we MUST pick one as ‘feminist’ - tho I’d argue neither terribly suits the label, for largely unrelated to Joss reasons, it IS hands down Buffy - bc sort of inevitability you get more fully fleshed out aspirationally-relatable actualized lady characters w 7 seasons to cook

@SweatieAngle @blakethinks Ok, I believe you on that, I’m not a big Whedon fan. He always came off as a hack to me, from the James Cameron school of feminism. I don’t think that Varla represents an ideal, like Buffy or Sarah Connor. She exists on her own terms, inspired by Tura’s own life..

@flatclem @blakethinks I’m VERY familiar with Buffy and FPKK in particular and I…just don’t agree. I think H-cup wasp waist gogo dancing catfighting car racing hot girl delinquents and hot blonde former cheer captains who keep killing boyfriends to save the world are cutting v similar levels of ‘deep’

@SweatieAngle @blakethinks Portraying dangerous bombshells, who vote!, and are a nightmare to any weak conservative beings around them was cutting deeper than an episode of Buffy. IMO the fetishes were more thrown into the other characters faces than for the audience, like in Basic Instinct for example?

@flatclem @blakethinks I have also seen faster pussycat kill kill - I think I have it on dvd somewhere - and the point is they both have a hot strong woman fetish that gets miscast as ‘feminist’ nothing beyond that
