Our ancestors built these temples for generations they would never meet. The question is: What are we leaving behind for the generations that come after us? A society that disconnects itself from its roots slowly loses its sense of self. Because heritage is not just about the past. It shapes identity, belonging, pride, and continuity. Once destroyed, these structures cannot truly be recreated. Only replicated badly… or mourned endlessly.

When such a temple is destroyed, we are not just losing a religious structure. We are losing: • history • architecture • engineering • sacred geography • artistry • identity • continuity A civilisation survives through memory. And memory needs physical anchors.

The Kakatiyas were among the greatest temple builders in Indian history. Their architecture was not merely artistic — it was scientific, spiritual, and deeply symbolic. Every carved pillar, every stone joint, every sculpture reflected generations of knowledge we still struggle to fully replicate today.

And this is the tragedy of modern India. We worship our civilisation in speeches, hashtags, and festivals… but on the ground, its physical remains are treated as obstacles. Ancient temples become encroachments. Stepwells become dumping grounds. Historic structures become “unused land.”

This was never a choice between education and heritage. That is the biggest lie in these situations. A school could have been designed around the temple. The temple could have been preserved as a living heritage site. Children could have studied beside history instead of over its ruins. But destruction was chosen because preservation was never prioritised.

Pause for a moment and think about that. A structure that survived centuries… dynasties, invasions, monsoons, neglect, and time itself… could not survive modern “development.”

It took the Kakatiyas years to carve. What A bulldozer erased it in hours. In Khanapur, Warangal, an ~800-year-old Shiva temple of the Kakatiya era was reportedly demolished for the construction of an “integrated school.” And with it, another fragment of Bharat’s civilisational memory disappeared into dust.
