Alperen Sengun shot profile breakdown: where he gets the ball completely changes his efficiency—and it exposes a bigger issue with Houston Rockets’ offense.

I’m convinced people don’t understand bball. Reed isn’t only there to score. He gives us proper spacing and teams actually defend him. It opens things up for KD Amen and Sengun. He’s also a good passer. Udoka’s only calculus is defense: Outhustle opponents and don’t let them score and we will win. Guess what - predictably fails every time when the opponents go on even a slight bit of a heater.
Jackson Gatlin@JTGatlin

This is the context people miss with Reed. Even when Reed is "off" he still provides spacing and handling, which opens things up for Durant and Sengun.

The Rockets have nobody who can both shoot and dribble inside the arc to capitalize behind the doubles of KD and it's completely killing their offense

Rockets just have to find a way to poke at the switch and switch and double. Reason the Lakers are doing it is to *not* give this up. Kevin Durant/Sengun pick and roll, Hayes at the level which puts two on the ball. Sengun catches on the short roll and finishes.

@aiwithq This is fair, I wouldn’t guard Okogie either. but Ime doesn’t have to play him. But with Okogie is in the lineup who has he stopped? Luke and smart have gone off both games so where is the advantage, Reed isn’t the best defender but Okogie isn’t stopping anyone

Against a non Rockets team, no Luke Kennard can’t guard but against this Rockets team, he can lol it’s easy to guard when all you have to do is let ppl shoot and pack the paint & they do when they play for us because of how Stone built this roster, with that dumbass “we’ll beat teams by defending and out rebounding them and getting second chance points” strategy

One of the few positives I have for this series is the defense Tari has played on LeBron. Bron is 5/15 from the field this series when guarded by Tari… Glue him to Bron from here on out. I’d start Reed (I highly doubt Udoka does), but throw in Tari over Okogie if not.

Reed Sheppard subbed in with the rest of the starters and the Rockets immediately went on a 9-0 run in the 2Q to get back in the game. And then Ime Udoka never went back to that lineup for the remainder of the game. His stubbornness and inability to adjust is losing the series.
Bradeaux@BradeauxNBA

Houston’s lineups this postseason with their 4 starters Amen, KD, Jabari, and Şengün: Okogie: -4 in 12 minutes (23-27) Reed: +9 in 2 minutes (9-0) Tari: -3 in 5 minutes (12-15) Let’s see if the obvious decision to play their best offensive lineup extended minutes is made.

@aiwithq Can luke kennard guard? Why does every player that plays have to be an all world defender to play for us lol luke and smart are literally frying us yet Reed playing 10 minutes so who is actually guarding lol like I don’t get it

@joebdguy Which shooters are you talking about? Reed and Aaron? They stink lol they can’t guard at all so if they missing, we might as well have a non shooter out there to at least get stops and second chance points of the inevitable bricks being thrown up, but it’s all bad either way

@KDaboiku lol imagine if one those guys was Reed or holiday, Şengün still has to fake out the defender to draw him to Okogie to free up Jabari lol

@stevejones20 @St012Mi Wouldn’t it be lovely if one of those options was Reed or holiday at the 3 point line for spacing purposes …. Everybody cutting to the paint but Jabari lol

Rockets go with a pindown for Kevin Durant to get Kennard to switch. Sengun looks to get middle but Ayton hits, Bron holds and they recover. Drive and kick to KD/Sengun P&R, opens the roll for Sengun. More help and a skip to Jabari for 3. Flow and movement key.

@joebdguy @Biggz_91 Even then the passes are horrible 😂😂 one behind amen body and the other one damn near over Eason head. Difference between good passes and just passing the ball.

@RedNinetyFour You'd think even a high school level coach would've learned very early on that you never play lineups with 3 or more guys who can't hit a jumper or dribble the ball. Yet Ime keeps doing it even when it NEVER works.

Ime assesses units as a collective on the defensive end, but on the offensive end, he assesses players as individual pieces. Case in point: he doesn’t want to play two weak defenders together. But then you have absolutely puke worthy lineups like Amen and Tate together, and Reed doesn’t play unless he’s hitting shots. Ime doesn’t see the value to a unit from having spacing and ball handling. That Reed/Amen/Bari/KD/Sengun unit went on the 9-0 run to get us back in the game and was never seen again, predictably. It’s been the same story all season. This is Stone Age 90s level thinking.
