New Orleans Pelicans have seemed to make an unforced error. They signed DeAndre Jordan to multiple years. They are unable to apply the 10-year veteran minimum subsidy. This is where they would be responsible $2,449,421 on the cap sheet and the NBA would bring Jordans salary up to $3.9M. Since this is only eligible on 1-year deals New Orleans is on the hook for the entire salary for both years.

@RedNinetyFour You are probably right, but I wonder if his intensity on defense struggled with the number of minutes last year.

So the Marcus Smart signing is official. This was a good signing. Cheap for good production. He will help the Rockets re-solidify some of the toughness and defensive identity they lost from losing Dillon and Fred last year. This should be a top 5 defensive team. I don’t know what happens with Reed though. I said, back when it was just Fred returning, that I didn’t see a path to Reed getting major minutes next year. With Smart as well now, it seems impossible. Ironically enough, while guys like Fred and Smart solidify Houston’s floor, they also cap the ceiling. The Rockets aren’t doing anything in the playoffs without a dynamic perimeter threat and the only guy currently on the roster with the chance to be that is Reed. The offensive rebounding gimmick won’t take you far. What will likely happen with Reed next year is an even more extreme version of his microwave role last season, where he’s yanked almost immediately if not catching fire. The Rockets will be able to extend him next summer on a very cheap deal. Internally, they will tell themselves small guards take time and that they’re buying him that time with these veterans ahead of him. Maybe it works and he becomes Steve Nash like they tell the media. I personally just don’t see it ever happening for Reed here under Ime Udoka. What a shame.

The Rockets need Fred VanVleet to be as good as he was pre-injury or (unfortunately) he needs to be moved. Jabari Smith also HAS to progress as a volume 3PT shooter this season. Reed Sheppard has to be good enough to start. And I think we are a volume shooter trade away.

Rockets are a lock to make the playoffs next year, we know this. The real question is what changes do YOU guys think the Rockets should make to win a championship. (My brief answer below)

I wanted Cam Whitmore to work out so badly for the #Rockets. All that talent, yet he just couldn't bend his game to work within a team structure/concept. Have to learn how to be a role player first, then grow your game from that.
