Michael Doherty, 38, left Courtney Angus, 21, with 76 injuries before taking indecent images of her and 'sexually humiliating her in every way he could imagine' at his home in Batley, West Yorkshire, in July last year.

THIS IS HORIFFIC Convicted rapist Michael Doherty, 38, prowled the streets with a large knife after brutally murdering 21-year-old barmaid Courtney Angus in a sadistic attack. Doherty had 23 previous convictions, including raping a stranger in 2013. Courtney had only recently moved into his home in Batley, West Yorkshire, and had clearly told him she did not want a relationship. After she rejected his advances he sexually assaulted her, inflicted 76 separate injuries, strangled her and subjected her to extreme sexual humiliation. He took indecent photos of her body and cut parts of it off, leaving them on his mantelpiece. He then went on a rampage through Dewsbury, threatening shop staff and police with the knife before confessing: “I’ve got a dead body in my house.” Doherty has now been jailed for life with a minimum term of 33 years at Leeds Crown Court.
