It is on assets, including unrealized gain (stocks). So you may have to sell stocks to pay the tax on stocks that haven’t been sold. If it is founder stock, you could lose control of your company. And this is in a state where there is 100s of billions of fraud, additional taxes keep the fraud going longer.

@Acyn Maybe Tim's constituents could afford "fucking groceries or utility bills" if the federal govt didn't spend so much money. The $7 trillion federal budget is larger than the GDP of every country but the US and China.

Rep. McBride on the Republican push to use taxpayer money to build Trump’s ballroom: My constituents can’t afford fucking groceries or utility bills, and he now wants to spend taxpayer money on a ballroom? They shouldn’t use a potential tragedy to try to secure funding from taxpayers for the president to have Great Gatsby parties in the White House.

@RepTeresaLF Cutting SNAP 18 billion a year for 10 years brings us back to where it historically has been. I think that number is too high but it is a start.

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández
Republicans are pushing a Farm Bill that locks in the largest SNAP cut in history. $187 BILLION ripped away from people just trying to eat—that’s Republicans priority this week.

@JDunlap1974 What is she talking about? My wife filed for hers. It was simple and easy. Started a month later that we thought but that was it.

Senate Majority Leader Jamie Pedersen is quelling speculation that the millionaires’ tax, a 9.9% tax on households earning more than $1 million annually, will turn into a general state income tax. mynorthwest.com/gee-and-ursula…

@ChrissyCasilio The budget for NYC is larger than the budget for the state of Florida. $127 billion to $115 billion. NYC population is 8.5 million + vs 23 million for the state of Florida. Who do you think has a spending problem

For simple math: Someone with a $10 million condo currently pays about $50,000 in property taxes each year. Under the proposed pied-à-terre tax, that same property could face an additional $100,000 annually. That brings the total to $150,000 a year. Some will say, “They can afford it, so what’s the issue?” But for people in this bracket, it’s not about the money...it's the principle... ...and they are going to give a gigantic middle finger to NYC on their way out!
Governor Kathy Hochul@GovKathyHochul

Let me paint this picture: A fairer New York City where everyone pays their part.

@ZaidJilani Take a look at the numbers. The US federal budget is $7 trillion plus. If it was a country, that would be the 3rd largest GDP after the US and China. The GDP of Germany is $5 trillion. Stop trying to raise taxes and fix our spending issues

@thehoffather Starbucks save $12k per employee they move to TN. The new 2nd HQ with room for 2000 staves them $24 million per year. If they move all 4600 positions they save $55,200,000 per year. The decision seems pretty easy to me. There is nothing magic about Starbucks being in seattle

WATCH: Local media asked Socialist Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson if she is concerned other businesses might leave after Starbucks announced its new HQ in Nashville. Twice, she answered, "This is not the subject of our press conference," before claiming the "Starbucks expansion to Nashville has been in the works for years. Seattle will remain their North American HQ & we're confident of that." Her staff then abruptly ended the press conference & pulled her away

@Acyn If you look at the numbers, the federal budget of over $7 trillion would make it the 3rd largest GDP in the world if a country. We have a spending a problem. Throughout the years, Senator Proxmire and others have pointed out the wasteful spending but it has fallen on deaf ears

@BernieSanders Billionaires pay and generate billions in tax payments. You know what the tax tables say. Someone being a billionaire doesn't hurt anyone. They didn't take the money from anyone. The only ones that take money from people by force are criminals and the govt

Donald Trump is a convicted felon, a twice impeached president, and America’s chief insurrectionist. His name is unfit to honor our nation’s buildings. I am proud to introduce the PROTECT Act to stop Donald Trump from using taxpayer-funded buildings for his personal vanity projects, because New Yorkers deserve public spaces that they can respect, not monuments to tyranny and corruption.

@hannahkrieg It is not capitalism that is not enforcing the laws, allowing drug use on streets, homeless encampments full of the mentally ill and addicts. Those are political decisions, not part of the economic system.
