The MTA should not have to fight to claw back previously approved funding for the Second Avenue Subway. Once again, the Trump administration is playing politics with another critical infrastructure project. The Trump administration must release these funds immediately and allow this project to resume. I am proud that the HEAR Act just passed the House unanimously and is headed to the President’s desk. During the Holocaust, the Nazis stripped Jewish families of countless works of art, culture, and heritage. The effects of these atrocities are still being felt today by survivors and their families. The HEAR Act seeks to ensure that all Holocaust survivors and their families are able to have their claims heard in American courts and considered on the merits alone, not dismissed on procedural technicalities. The passage of this bill today is but the next act of light in the memory of the darkest period in human history.

I am outraged and horrified by the attack at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan. I am grateful that @NYCMayor has deployed the NYPD to conduct high-visibility patrols at Jewish religious and cultural institutions across New York City in response to this horrible act. While we wait for more information as to the motive and circumstances of this attack, I am as resolved as ever to fight for a comprehensive and holistic approach to respond to and prevent antisemitism in this country.

As I’ve long said, Kristi Noem needs to resign, be fired, or impeached. Just yesterday @HouseJudiciary questioned her and she evaded all accountability. ICE agents ran amok, killed US citizens in the streets, and mistreated thousands of others. I’m glad to see her fired, but her dangerous actions will be long felt by our most vulnerable neighbors. If her replacement continues Trump’s cruel mass deportation policies and continues terrorizing communities, we will hold him accountable too.

Congress must act now to reassert its constitutional authority to declare war. Trump’s unlawful strikes against Iran come at the price of American lives, civilian lives, and taxpayer dollars. The Constitution gave war powers to Congress – not a King – precisely because the American people do not want this war.

Under @Sec_Noem’s leadership, DHS is an out of control agency where lies and deceit have become commonplace. ICE agents lied when they seized a Columbia University student without a warrant. They lied when they handcuffed a member of my staff. And they lied when they abandoned a blind refugee in the freezing cold. Secretary Noem refuses to make good on any sort of accountability or comply with local investigations into her agency’s conduct. Tomorrow, I will, once again, vote NO on DHS funding.

Another huge win for New York City! Trump and @SecDuffy's relentless attack on congestion pricing is finally over. I have long fought for congestion pricing and I'm proud it's working. There's less traffic, safer streets, cleaner air, and major investments in public transit.

This is good news, and I’m glad she was released. But, this should’ve never happened in the first place. ICE agents didn’t have a judicial warrant, so they lied their way in. ICE must have a judicial warrant. I hope the agents are held responsible for their actions.

Joint statement from me and @MicahLasher: We are disgusted and outraged that ICE agents entered a Columbia University residential building under false pretenses and without a judicial warrant to detain a student. ICE has no place in our City, schools, and homes. Law enforcement agents should not, under no circumstance, misrepresent their identity to gain entrance into a residence. These actions do not keep us safe, they only sow distrust and fear into our community. ICE is terrorizing our neighbors and ripping students from their homes. We are doing everything in our power to help bring the student home.

Yesterday, Trump and RFK’s handpicked choice for Surgeon General dabbled in vaccine denialism, skepticism of hormonal birth control, lack of awareness on harmful pesticides, and proved herself to be utterly unqualified for the role. Even Trump’s first Surgeon General agrees: the fact that she is not a licensed physician should be disqualifying enough, but her extreme views and spread of misinformation should end her nomination immediately.

As a former U.S. Surgeon General who held an active medical license and practiced medicine while in the role (at Walter Reed and aboard the USS Comfort) it is incomprehensible that the Senate is even considering a nominee for this role who lacks any active license and has never practiced unsupervised. 🤯

Today marks 5 years since the House passed the Equality Act to enshrine explicit protections for LGBTQ+ people into federal law.   Supporting the LGBTQ+ community’s fight for equality has been a core tenant of my work, and I'll keep fighting to ensure ALL people are protected from discrimination, no matter who they are or who they love.   I was proud to vote for it then, and I'm proud as a Member of the @EqualityCaucus to be a co-sponsor of the bill this Congress.
