@NewAgeRetroNerd Already being familiar with programming it looks like this is the best place to start:

@NewAgeRetroNerd I would go with a C++11 book as that was the update that changed how C++ is written.

@beausolai @unusual_whales He exudes mental breakdown vibes. Altman exudes serial liar vibes. Musk is by far the most normal AI CEO who just exudes industry standard autism vibes.

Before J.J. Abrams took over, Paramount reviewed over a dozen scripts for a new Star Trek. Some focused on young Kirk and Spock, others on events after Nemesis. Abrams was chosen to reinvent the saga, not just resurrect it, and he absolutely succeeded.

@_trish_xD The argument for learning C first is that you are exposed to hardware and learn how machines really work.

why does the "just learn C first" debate get so heated? part of it is the pattern. there's something both beginners and senior systems devs share that the mid-level guy doesn't. but what is it? it's not syntax knowledge. the mid-level dev has that. what they share is *knowing their limits*. the beginner knows they don't understand memory. the senior knows exactly where their mental model breaks. the mid-level dev thinks they get it - they don't know what they don't know. that's the real reason cargo-cult C programmers are dangerous. they've learned enough to be confident. not enough to be careful. knowing a language and understanding what it's actually doing under the hood - those are so so different things. the gap between them is where bugs live.

@ChShersh That was 9/10 C code. 10/10 would use XOR before returning i.

@antlionai Yes. Choo choos are for high trust, high population density countries. But a self driving taxi fleet is better than trains.

I sure hope people adding age verification compliance to Linux remember that you can have negative Unix epoch ms values.

std::span doesn't support initializer lists. Our span does, but LLM is pessimistic... LLM writes a C-array as a separate object :( C++ guarantees that function parameters (temporaries) outlive the function call. Making initializer list safe in span.

Best turn-based strategy game of the 90s. What would be your pick? Mine would be Civilization II from 1996.
