Where did the white people go from Gorton? The silent cleansing of England means we don't hear about when individual decisions were made to ''get out''. The quiet mutterings over the dinner table that things were just getting worse. There was a time when Gorton was English, and now it isn't. But the gap between the one and the other is never the subject of conversation, let alone any empathy. What about the little hold-outs? How are they doing? Can't they afford to leave? Does anybody care?
