Today is not only the start of a new year, it’s also my 29th birthday. Time to celebrate and reflect… 2024 will undoubtedly be my toughest year yet, as I work to achieve my dream of representing my home area as our very first elected Mayor. But looking back at where I started out and reflecting on everything I’ve overcome, I feel ready to face this next challenge. I’ll give everything I have to prove the doubters wrong, set a good example for younger people, and do my friends, family and Yorkshire proud. Happy 2024 everyone. Just imagine you get a low grade local government job, say £20k pa. Annual pay reviews are backdated to April but may not be agreed to Nov or even Feb. You are offered a promotion in January and leave for pastures new. That’s 10 months of back pay of £1925 you are owed yes? /1
