Another year of Week Without Walls was a huge success! Students in Div. 5, 12, & 13 spent 100% of their week learning outside! Students spent the week exploring the 4 elements and had the chance to garden, walk to the dyke, and even try some outdoor cooking!

What happens when students take ownership in co-creating a word wall? How might this support student agency in learning? #srl #sd38learn @RichmondSD38

Last week, @petitsgriffons students continued to explore kindness in relations to nature, listening to bird language & cleaning up the school grounds. “Kindness is when you feel welcomed because birds sing you a song in Shady Forest.” - R, K student #sd38learn

Exploring shapes during outdoor classroom! Ss added some colour to our outdoor space by creating mosaics. How many different shapes do you see?

Curiosities grew when Ss were visited by a spider in the garden. We wondered “how do spiders shoot out webs?” “where do they get les couleurs?” we investigated these questions in our spider inquiry @gilmoregriffins #sd38learn

We took advantage of a sunny break to explore what happens when chalk and puddles become friends, inspired by the book “Chalk”! “It’s turning the puddle into space colours” “I made a rainbow because maybe we will see one.” @gilmoregriffins @petitsgriffons #sd38learn

Today, Div 12/13 students adopted their class trees. We will document our trees over the year. What gifts do the trees bring? What will they teach us? @gilmoregriffins

The pond is back @gilmoregriffins thanks to a weekend of rain! What new wonders do you have? What connections can you make to the land and place? “Why are there so many clovers under water?” “Worms live here. Maybe ducks will come?” #sd38learn

Inspired by Elaine McLeod’s bk, we went on a nature walk to the dyke on National Indigenous Peoples Day. Ss shared how they acknowledge the Land while exploring mindfully to observe with 👀 and 👂 lessons from earth. “Merci pour the Land for taking care of me” @gilmoregriffins

Measuring, sanding, levelling. Team work, collaboration, and flexible thinking were evident in learners’ careful building of the bug hotels @gilmoregriffins #adst #sd38learn How can we include all insects in our garden space?
