Our teachers are exhausted. They continue to show up for our children no matter how many obstacles are thrown their way – uncertainty, high risk environments, emotionally dysregulated kids and parents. It’s a burnout like I’ve never seen in all my days.

To @hieu_fraser who wrote a special book called, The Little Girl. It brought up so many big connections and thinking. Beautiful book. Beautiful message. Beautiful author! (I asked my Ss if I can share his words and he was ecstatic)

Indian Residential School Survivors Society
This was created by the students at N'kwala School. 🧡 It reads, "They tried to bury us, they didn't know we were seeds that would awaken the world."

and a quote from my 7 y.o student, “We need to think about the #215Indigenouschildren who didn’t survive in the residential school but also the children who survived bc they are suffering too. We have to think about every child who had to suffer because they are still hurting”.

Before reading @mflowrites book, I asked my gr. 1/2 Ss what they think “Stolen Words” mean? This is what they already know.

This week was hard. The news about the #215Indigenouschildren @ kamloops was a wake up call for me to do more as a settler and to learn more at becoming a better ally. This isn’t history. The trauma from res. schools are still affecting Indigenous families. 💔

But the most extraordinay speech came from my @ISGSenate colleague, Mary Jane McCallum, a residential school survivor, who was taken from her family at the age of 5. This is very hard to hear. Which is why you should hear it. #215children #SenCa #cdnpoli @SenateofCanada
