@MerrynSW Because then you have to pay through the nose if you happen to want to buy a second home (stamp duty and council tax surcharges).

@GuyTalksFinance The S&P 500 is 7% NVDA and 6% AAPL, that is not diversification

Before you buy any single stock — make sure to have at least $50,000 invested in the S&P 500 first.

@2147mill The LISA is not for me, it’s useless for buying a house if you live in the south-east, limit is far too low compared to average house prices. And for pension, tax relief is higher on additional SIPP contributions than the LISA.

What I wish someone told my 20-year-old self: Open a LISA immediately. Max it every year. By 30, you'll have a deposit or a pension boost. By 40, you'll wonder why everyone doesn't do this.

@policy_uk You missed that those deemed worthy (and those who represent them) still moan that they aren’t given enough support and need more and if you disagree you’re literally Hitler blah blah blah rinse repeat

The British State essentially works on the basis that if you’re deemed to be worthy, everything is free / discounted. But the ‘worthiness’ is accessible by simply being on a (‘declared’) low income. Everyone else pays full excessive whack.

Conflict in the Middle East has once again shown that clean power is essential for energy security. That’s why we’re speeding up action, with solar panels to be fitted as standard on new homes and plug-in solar to be made available in shops within months. lbc.co.uk/article/miliba…

Amateur bond vigilantism is fun. I put this 12p short bet on Gilts a couple of days ago & I’m already up nearly £25 which will pay for my beers tonight whilst helping to destroy this rotten government

@StevenEdginton Surely a capable journalist can do an expose naming and shaming all the politicians, civil servants, quangos and councillors who were responsible for this. Name and shame in a national newspaper, documentary, book, anything!

@JFracson I think you underestimate how screwed up all the FT500 IT systems are. Can’t slap IT on top of them and just fire a bunch of people. Why hasn’t Google or Microsoft done this yet?

Every time I fire up Claude, I become more and more convinced of one thing. What’s currently happening in the oil market is almost irrelevant compared to what’s about to take place in the white-collar job market. Please do everything you can to own hard assets; the gates are about to close.

Remembered in the Daily Mail today, my 2012 poetry recital on BBC QT. The thing that struck me was that *none* of the other panellists knew any verse, and that David Dimbleby tried quite hard to stop me reciting this passage.

I think it’s more a middle class civil war. Useless public sector middle class people like Labour *loathe* useful private sector middle class people. There is no stronger hatred in this country.
Chris Rose@ArchRose90

Beth Rigby: You’ve targeted people who send their kids to private schools, people who earn income from assets, landowners, small business owners. There is a pattern here, is this class war? It is the typical politics of envy, anti-aspiration, class war we can expect from Labour.

NW3 I pay 3200/ month in rent, place is worth 1.6-1.8 mln I rent because a mortgage payment would be twice as high per month, and the returns on earn on my cash are much higher than the cost of renting the property (ie much higher than 2% net / 4% gross). So I stack cash and invest it and eventually it will either generate enough pretax passive income to cover a mortgage or, more likely, a capital event where I can just buy a place outright and file it away as consumption Incidentally, if I did buy a property it would be first an investment property where the rental yields are 8% minimum

My friend told me he and his wife live paycheck to paycheck. I don't believe it because they both are high earners in tech, and he even works for Google. But after doing a little bit of math, I found out he didn't lie. • Mortgage: $17,000/month for a $3M home • Property Tax: $3,000/month • Private School: $3,000/month for 1 kid • Travel: $2,000/month (assuming $20k/year) • Utilities: $1,000/month • Groceries: $2,000/month • Eating Out: $1,000/month • 2 cars: $1,000/month So in total $30k per month, not including other misc costs like house maintenance, paying for Netflix, etc. W-2 employees usually take home only 50% of their salary, so they have to make $60k per month pretax, which is $720k in annual TC. What's the point of living a life like this?
