My daughter Maddie is on the autism spectrum. Life is all about schedules 4 life 2 run well. It's why she loves school. Today her teachers did a car parade 4 their students. This & the @zoom_us calls have been her highlight during the pandemic. Beautiful day! #autism #rexchapman

@MattRandazzo @Journey_Renae @NorthDavenport I loved watching Journey play this season. Her dawg mentality has been a missing ingredient in past Hawk teams. Is there a JH NIL store. I want to buy some merchandise of hers to give to my Hawk loving daughters.

"I don't mind adversity --- I don't mind having to work for a spot or pushing myself I like that kind of stuff --- that's why Coach J says all the time I'm a dog" - @Journey_Renae on if she had an offseason decision It's always great to catch up with former @NorthDavenport standout Journey Houston on "Off the Air with Matt Randazzo"! We had plenty to talk about including her outstanding freshman season, playing out of position, recruiting pitch to transfers, and a TON more Check out my entire interview with Journey at the links below! 📺youtube.com/live/59_plzfYD… 🍎podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/off… 🟢open.spotify.com/episode/13SaQl… @houston_jacinda @houstonj2121 @HuesmannKyle @DavenportNorthH @BrianStocking @goiowa @IowaWBB

This is the worst coaching I have ever seen. If I am the other team I tell my pitcher next to walk this kid and then have him throw over to 1st base...but send it high, have my 1st basemen whiff on catching it, so the ball would bean the 1st base coach.
Danny Kanell@dannykanell

The coaches and parents who allow this to go on are the problem. Instead of teaching kids how to play the game the right way and show respect for the opponent they’re worried about getting viral attention. Embarrassing.

@bkravitz @SethDavisHoops This group's been overhyped 4 what they will do in NBA. Petersons ability is rare but to draft a guy who doesnt love the game is scary. AJ would be my pick for 1, but he shot 33% from 3 and isnt a great faciliator. Unless Peterson evolves i dont see a future top 20 player.

@SethDavisHoops Maybe Boozer is more of an acquired taste or someone you need to watch consistently to truly appreciate him, but I’m with Bill here. I think he’ll be a terrific pro and would love to see him land in Indy, but you give me a choice, I’m all over Dybantsa.

@jakequery Great perspective on their achievements. I explain this as an Iowa fan that I love winning, but doing it with Midwest kids who represent my school in a great fashion (football and basketball) is more important to me than winning it all with a bunch of athletic mercenaries.

Dr. Lemma@DoctorLemma

19 years ago, a high school basketball coach put his team manager into a game for the final four minutes. The kid had never played a single minute of competitive basketball in his life. He scored 20 points. Jason McElwain was diagnosed with severe autism at age two. He didn’t speak until he was five. He couldn’t chew solid food until he was six. He wore a nappy for most of his early childhood. As a baby, he was rigid, wouldn’t make eye contact, and hid in corners away from other children. He tried out for his school basketball team every year and got cut every time. Too small. Too slight. Barely 5’6 and about 54 kilograms. But he loved the game so much that his mum called the school and asked if there was any way he could be involved. The coach created a team manager role for him. For three years, McElwain showed up to every practice and every game. He wore a shirt and tie on match days. He ran drills, handed out water, kept stats, and cheered every basket like he’d scored it himself. On 15 February 2006, the last home game of his final school year, the coach let him suit up in a proper jersey and sit on the bench. With four minutes left and a comfortable lead, the coach sent him in. His first shot missed. His second missed. Then something shifted. He hit a three-pointer. Then another. Then another. His teammates stopped shooting entirely and just kept passing him the ball. He hit six three-pointers and a two-pointer. 20 points in four minutes. The highest scorer in the game. When the final buzzer went, the entire crowd rushed the court and lifted him onto their shoulders. His mum tapped the coach on the shoulder, in tears. “This is the nicest gift you could have ever given my son.” McElwain won the ESPY Award for Best Moment in Sports that year, beating out some of the biggest names in professional sport. He’s 36 now. He works at a local supermarket, coaches basketball, has run 17 marathons including five Boston Marathons, and travels the country speaking about never giving up. When asked about that night, his coach still gets emotional. “For him to come in and seize the moment like he did was certainly more than I ever expected. I was an emotional wreck.”

“It was like a job”. Understand that when you get paid millions to do something that it IS a job. Expectations come when paychecks are involved. That’s how employment works. Very glad my 18 year old understands this concept playing/working for @HawaiiFootball #BRADDAHHOOD

A teacher told the shyest student in the class that if he pulled out a blank sheet of paper, he would give everyone a perfect score on the exam. What the students didn't know was that both sheets of paper were blank. The teacher wanted to include him, and he succeeded.

@firstroundmock There were other draftniks who felt even worse on Maye than u did, but he looked really great in 22, despite 2nd rate coaching & a team falling apart. I think Nussmeier has a similar trajectory. Played really well as a junior. He played hurt as a senior and had no running game.

@firstroundmock I really enjoy your takes as i feel too often there seems to be an echo chamber on too many prospects. I do believe the weakness u have is not considering non-production issues. See Drake Maye. Maye will not see a second contract from the team that drafts him if he goes top 17

FIRST ROUND MOCK
FIRST ROUND MOCK@firstroundmock·
As a former NFL Scout, I’m really bothered by how Ty Simpson, Garrett Nussmeier and Fernando Mendoza are being overhyped in the 2026 NFL Draft. It’s not cute to be setting up these quarterbacks to fail. There is nothing on their game film that supports these “first round valuations” that are floating around out there. And here’s the irony — Everyone who’s getting behind these unmerited “first round narratives,” on Simpson, Nussmeier and Mendoza isn’t helping them. It isn’t helping their chances in the NFL whatsoever. Sure, it might get them paid more initially if they actually go high, and it generates a lot of clicks for the consensus choir, but it won’t help the teams they are going to win, it isn’t going to help the fanbases of those teams and it sure isn’t going to help Simpson, Nussmeier or Mendoza succeed in the NFL. Grading creates expectations and those expectations control their trajectories with the teams that draft them. Unmet expectations create disappointment and unmet expectations are the very thing busts are made of. All people are doing by banging on this “first round drum” with Simpson, Nussmeier, and Mendoza is setting them up to fail. They haven’t shown on their college game film that they have the necessary NFL translatable quarterback skill sets to support that level of valuation or expectation. Simpson produced 3rd round NFL value game film at Alabama in 2025. That makes Simpson a high ceiling developmental quarterback prospect. That does not make Simpson a prospect who can come in and succeed with franchise QB level expectations. Nussmeier and Mendoza both produced 4th round NFL value game film respectively at LSU and Indiana in 2025. That makes Nussmeier and Mendoza low ceiling developmental quarterback prospects. That does not make Nussmeier or Mendoza prospects who can come in and succeed with franchise QB level expectations. I know — I’ve done the work on them. I’ve studied 30 documented games of Simpson, 28 documented games of Nussmeier, and 24 documented games of Mendoza. Beating incessantly on this “first round drum” doesn’t change what these quarterback prospects put on game film and it doesn’t change how their college game film translates to the NFL. All it does is it sets them up to fail.
