Y'all gonna gay out the black race and it makes me sad.
That's... if you had your way. I live in the deep south and I'm the minority as a white dude. The black men I hang out with... nah. And they'd be a little pissed about the insinuation. However, i know a few female studs but the ones I know personally (and it seems this is throughout all races) were sexually abused while young.
They're lesbian because of vile men.
Really says something. The men (I know) despise it and the women (I know) went LGB because of past sexual violence.
That's not a coincidence.

@jothwip But those attitudes can coexist in a society! Pre-Christian Romans were less hostile to homosexuality, didn't practice racial discrimination as it's understood today, and still dominated, conquered, or crushed barbarian societies

There's a lot of modern fantasy that is obsessed with sanding down any emotional/sociopolitical tension by making everyone unproblematic and fluent in therapy-speak in ways that make zero sense for the setting or characters, while allowing the quirky fun violence to go unexamined

I don't think Tolkien wrote for a general audience expecting them to think that hobbits were literally incapable of violence or murder instead of just sheltered

Not here to defend Rings of Power but Sanderson is either illiterate or has not read any Tolkien. The books often reference the hobbits' more violent past, and Hobbit society is made up of the nastiest most horrid, classist, small-minded, mendacious Little Englanders imaginable.

@prelife_ @WBAIII @its_hipolita We don't have to label Frodo a liar to speculate that he could be talking about living memory, or that there may be incidents not widely known or not known to him. Both Bilbo and Frodo get the impulse to kill, which establishes a capacity for violence, even if diminished .

@sequencerider @WBAIII @its_hipolita Characters rarely say anything they don’t mean or don’t believe in Tolkien’s work, and assuming Frodo suddenly becomes unreliable about hobbits during the most important chapter of the whole book is quite an assumption

Gandalf mentions that in the Shire swords are mostly blunt and shields used as trays...I don't think it's out of the realm of plausibility that they were originally used for something else

So not only has Iran brazenly lied about its ballistic missile range capacity, but this means it can probably hit the UK with them - and we have zero, I repeat ZERO, defence against these missiles. Very worrying.

Neither hit the base, but the message landed harder than any warhead could. Tehran has always publicly claimed its missile range tops out at 2,000 km. This strike attempt doubles that number overnight. The Khorramshahr-4 that likely carried out the attack can also deliver cluster warheads, the same munitions that have been devastating Israeli cities for three weeks. Look at the map. A 4,000 km range from Tehran draws a circle that reaches Paris, London, and most of Europe. The blackout here in Cuba is eerie and disturbing. Whole streets with zero light, every window dark, and then you see shapes moving in the darkness and realize people are trying to live their lives. I cannot believe how cruel this US policy is. We could stop this.

You’re not wrong in the humanitarian impact of the situation.
It’s awful and horrific in any sense. But the reason is very, clear. The citizens have asked for freedom against the communist regime. This is the only realistic way. Not a fantasy on theatre war games. There are Cubanos willing to die to set their people free from this tyranny. They are going to be remembered as heroes.
But yes. Let us not diminish their sacrifices.
