@theideareview @anglofuturist Take your pick Blair, brown, Cameron, may, Boris, Sunak, Starmer. All back the redistribution of wealth through the welfare state.

The Lizz Truss / Kwarteng budget was a complete disaster but at the same time it's the only budget in recent memory that genuinely tried to tackle the problem of a lack of economic growth.

All these news reports about Andy Burnham is going to do this, he is going to do that. The contest for leader has not even started properly, yet they are treating him like the PM. He literally only took the oath to be an MP 2 days ago. I cannot help but feel this is fixed.

@BattlewalksSA Yeah, there is also a similar tweet from Burnham saying the same thing. Hypocrites the lot of them.

@theideareview @anglofuturist It takes a profound arrogance to think you have the right to move talent and people around not on the basis of broader benefit but purely to be punitive to the talented people and places that attract them. No clear ideas and no good ideas are coming out of Burnham.

It’s not melodramatic to expect us to be the good guys.. It’s not melodramatic to expect us to be better than the tories.. I’m not a member of a cult, if you betray my values you’re going to hear about it & so is everyone else! You’ve turned a formidable ally into a dissenter!

no it doesnt. rishi putting a government office in his constituency is not the same as a new executive function to manchester
Ben Houchen@BenHouchen

This already exists. @RishiSunak created it in Darlington when Chancellor and expanded it when PM.The Govt are currently in the middle of building a dedicated building for tens of millions of pounds for this purpose and to accommodate the 1000 civil servants already working there

Reminds me of civil service days: sometimes a new regional head would be appointed, and suddenly lots of operations & meetings were moved to the office nearest to where s/he lived. No business case, these things seemed to just happen. I dont think he can just do that, can he?

I don’t think Burnham should move government functions up to Manchester. We should follow the Japanese example and create a new capital city called Donlon.

@Chronomaly06 Ooh that's actually quite possible! Hopefully the Lib Dems start to lock in and work on their popularity so then they have enough seats to support Labour🙏
